I have zero problem with Tom Hardy being in any kind of comic book movie but there’s something about Hardy that should be reserved for the elite. When Hardy played Bane in The Dark Knight Rises that was a film directed by Christopher Nolan and is in a league of its own as far as I’m concerned. There’s an extremely dark and cinematic tone to those Batman films. Picturing Hardy in something like The Avengers, Thor, Captain America, or anything modern DCEU is almost foreign to me.
Hardy has a right to make a living and play any role that he wants but the selfish side of me wants his resumé to be flawless. Even the greatest actors of any generation make casting mistakes. I mean look at Michael Caine and Morgan Freeman. Think about how many stinkers they’ve been in. And I’m not saying Hardy won’t be an amazing Venom. Of course he will. I just don’t want this to end up being cheesy and having to associate Tom Hardy with a movie that sucked.
Do you guys feel me on this? I hope you know where I’m coming from. It’s like asking Christoper Nolan to direct a Happy Gilmore movie.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Oscar nominee Tom Hardy is in final negotiations for the title role, while Zombieland director Ruben Fleischer is nearing a deal to step behind the camera. Production is set to begin this fall; the film is targeted for release on Oct. 5, 2018.
