Ever since Nick Offerman played the role of Ron Swanson on Parks and Recreation he’s built up the reputation of being a “man’s man.” Ron Swanson is often looked at as the epitome of maleness as he obsesses about bacon, beer, wood carving, and effectively sticking it to the man. However, usually actors that portray characters aren’t always like their characters. But in this case, Offerman’s actually far more like Swanson that people realize. Many people don’t know this about Offerman but….
In addition to acting, Offerman is also a professional boat builder and has a side business as a wood craftsman. Offerman makes furniture and other wooden structures such as canoes and boats at his woodshop. He also released an instructional DVD in 2008 titled Fine Woodstrip Canoe Building with Nick Offerman, shot by Jimmy Diresta. Diresta’s pay for shooting the DVD was a canoe, the second Offerman has built. The writers of Parks and Recreation added a fondness for woodworking to Offerman’s character. Offerman has also written a book, out on October 18, 2016, about woodworking including several project tutorials, titled Good Clean Fun
While Offerman allows plenty of people into his personal life via he and his wife Megan Mullaly’s social media profiles, perhaps no better personal photo is out there than this one I stumbled across today. If there’s one certainty in life, it’s that this child will be an amazing carpenter someday.
