Remember before the weekend started I posted those solid tweets about Alien: Covenant? I’m starting to think that perhaps these were generated by people somehow connected to the film or were they “paid” give the movie good press? Prior to the weekend a select amount of people in the media were privilege to an early screening of the film and from what I’ve read many agreed that it was extremely scary and a solid return to the franchise. Boy, how things change in the span of 24 hours.
I’ve read nothing but negativity today and this by many of my peers out there. io9 called it “quite possible the biggest disappointment of the summer.” Other outlets have said it was a “total waste of time.” Ultimately I think that you have to see it for yourself and make a decision but I’ve been skeptical about this movie from day one and don’t have much of a genuine interest in seeing it.
It’s also annoying that Ridley Scott’s been touting sequels to the original and “at least” five more Alien films. I like Scott as a director but comments like that almost make me want to root for the film to have a poor showing. We’ll know more in a week but so far so mediocre.
