Oh, did you hear that Joss Whedon is in talks to direct Batgirl? I think the only piece of news that got more press than that yesterday was the Game of Thrones Season 7 trailer (which completely ruled by the way). I really wanted to “break the news” but I think at least 500 other outlets were writing about it at the exact same time. Honestly I don’t have a ton to say about it other than it’s a great move by the DCEU. Whedon’s always been a fan favorite. He’s a fantastic writer and is one of the elites in the geek universe.
I feel like if this guy could create something as special as Firefly then he sure as hell will know how to tackle the comic book world. By the way, he wrote and directed The Avengers and Age of Ultron, writes Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D, and was WAY TOO involved with Buffy the Vampire Slayer stuff. The point is that he’s more than capable of switching over to the DC side. Do we call it the dark side yet? Nah. Whedon should lighten it up a little.
The point I’m making is that this is a big win for the DCEU in the race to catch up to Marvel. The question is….who the hell plays Batgirl? I’d love to see Jennifer Lawrence do it.
