As if Christopher Nolan couldn’t be any better, the footage he shared of his new WWII drama Dunkirk earned CinemaCon’s biggest standing ovation of the events of the last 3 days. The filmmaker himself introduced the clips taken from his World War II drama which stars Tom Hardy, Cillian Murphy, Kenneth Branagh, Mark Rylance and Harry Styles. The feature charts the British military evacuation of the French region in 1940 – one of the war’s biggest battles.
Speaking about the project, Nolan said: “Dunkirk and the legend of it is something that British people grow up with — it’s in our DNA. The idea of taking this paradoxical situation and putting it on the big screen — it’s something that’s been close to my heart for some time, it’s something I didn’t think I was ready to do. I wanted to tell the story in the most visceral way possible; I wanted to take that audience and put them on the beach.”
This just solidifies Christopher Nolan’s growing legend as being one of the best directors of all-time. I’ve said before and I’ll say it again. Unless Christopher Nolan is attached to any upcoming Batman movie, I want absolutely nothing to do with it.
While Dunkirk isn’t out yet, we’re looking at a movie that’s 100% going to rival Saving Private Ryan with regards to war footage and is already shaping itself up to be one of the best war movies of all time. I don’t care how much hype this movie gets, the movie is going to live up to it. That much I’m sure of. Here are a few reactions from some of the media members who were treated to the footage.
The @dunkirkmovie footage I saw at @cinemacon was engaging and immersive! This looks to another amazing film from #ChristopherNolan
