There is every single possible thing in the world to like about this article headline. Ridley Scott is 100% back in the game right now because of Alien: Covenant (though I think it’s a little premature of him to claim he can direct six more). Tom Hardy is well, Tom Hardy. The thought of him playing a Navy Seal couldn’t possibly be more right. Then take into account Netflix who is essentially taking over the entire world of movie, TV, and everything else winning the bid for the film, and you’ve got yourself something that can be hyped for at least the next 2 years.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, War Party will star Hardy, with Scott’s company, Scott Free Productions, handling production. Andrew Dominik, best known for The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford and Killing Them Softly, will co-write and direct. Plot details are under wraps but the film will be based on real-life events, with Hardy playing a decorated US Navy Seal.
This is one of those “you had me at hello” kind of announcements. Seriously, I don’t even need to know any plot details, do you? We’re talking Tom Hardy as a Navy Seal folks. You think he’s not going to go absolutely bananas in prepping for this role? This isn’t the first time Hardy and Scott have teamed up either.
Scott produced the actor’s period drama Taboo, which was recently commissioned for a second series, and Hardy was featured in Scott’s 2001 film Black Hawk Down. While Scott isn’t directing War Party, who cares? No chance this movie isn’t awesome.
Check out Hardy in this behind the scenes Black Hawk Down interview. WOW.
