While Deadpool opened the door for comic book movies to take a more violent and R-rated tone, Logan is the movie that everyone is talking about right now. It is widely considered to be Hugh Jackman’s best portrayal of Wolverine and James Mangold delivered a comic book film that proves massive special effects, fancy CGI, or even a more “child-friendly” rating aren’t necessary to be a box office success. Mangold and company showed that great storytelling and characters we can identify with will always draw people to the movies. What does this mean for the future of comic book movies?
That’s a tough question to answer but you can bet that a number of films that will be coming out in the next year or two will be trying a darker and less censored approach than before. While we may never see an R-rated Batman film, it might be interesting to see what would happen if Affleck’s Batman came from the same mold as Jackman’s Logan. What if the Batman v Superman trailer were given the “Logan” treatment?
I’m glad you guys were thinking that because website We Got This Covered has put together a new trailer called Wayne. The film is cut using footage from Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice and done in the style of Logan‘s second trailer, complete with Jeremy Irons narration and the track “Way Down We Go.”
While the trailer still has its fair share of effects and glitz, the trailer comes from the perspective of Batman’s character and the events that lead him to be who he is. Check it out below:
