In one way or another we’ve been worried about some kind of intelligence or life form apocalypse for well over 100 years. With regard to it appearing on the big screen and on radio, the first major worry of this came in the original film War of the Worlds in 1953which was based on a fake radio broadcast of the same name that talked about Aliens taking over the earth. In various forms films have explored either the rise of machines (AKA Artificial Intelligence) or another species from another planet taking over our civilization for decades.
The medium in which humans will be taken over has shifted more to robots in recent years. Beginning in 1984 with The Terminator to later years movies like iRobot, The Matrix, subsequent Terminator sequels, the rise of the machines is an avenue movies will continue to explore.
But as far as our real lives here and now? The threat of AI taking over is minimal….for now. Many speculate it’s a matter of time before machines become smarter than us and realize that they don’t need us to sustain life. Skywatch is an original sci-fi short that takes place in a future defined by immediacy and convenience. When a pair of mischievous friends hack into the infrastructure of a drone delivery system, they kick off a chaotic series of events and soon find themselves targeted by the corporation – and scrambling to cover their tracks.
