While Disney movies are always packed with fun, lessons for kids, and will usually make us feel all warm and snugly inside, most of us adults know just how sinister some of these movies really are. Think about how much horrible death occurs in Disney movies. Think about how much racism, stereotyping, and exclusion occurs. By no means am I trashing Disney movies here because I like the next person love all the classics and even the new movies.
However, not one Disney movie that I can recall is nearly as “innocent” and “sweet” as it either appears to be or is marketed as. I’ll get you one example and you’ll understand what these photos are all about. Let’s take Peter Pan for example. In reality Peter Pan was a sociopath. The original Peter Pan describes him as a charismatic, careless, and selfish boy who never grows up and takes credit for everyone’s success and never accepts responsibility. This is why Wendy doesn’t return to Neverland. She realizes Pan’s web of lies and deceit.
At the end of the original play, we are told very clearly that Peter Pan isn’t living in real life because he prefers his delusions in Neverland. Even the play itself closes with the lines “to live would have been an awfully big adventure….but he never got the hang of it.” Pan’s true nature is glossed over.
Now that you get the picture, there are about 10 more examples below:
