When I first read about the news I honestly thought this was a joke. But alas, it is not. Jalen Rose is going to be starring in a new sitcom. How about we let that sink in for a minute before I type it in again? Jalen Rose is going to star in a sitcom. If you’re familiar with ABC’s Fresh off the Boat you might know that the show has become a hit. So much so that their executive producer Nahnatchka Khan seems to think they can recreate the success by having a former NBA player turned analyst with no acting experience be the star of a show called Jalen Vs. Everybody. According to Uproxx
The show will include Rose as the lead “as he juggles his career responsibilities with the challenges of being a single dad,” and it will seemingly showcase the charisma and appeal that has led Rose to rise rather quickly through the ranks at ESPN. Fresh Off the Boat producer Nahnatchka Khan will serve as executive producer, according to the report, and that is doubly noteworthy considering he is the brother of Rose’s agent, CAA’s Nick Kahn.
Look, I appreciate Jalen Rose like the next guy. I happen to think his commentary while sometimes obtuse is fairly logical when it comes to the NBA. And frankly he’s become one of the more charismatic voices in sports broadcasting. I also highly doubt that anyone would think the guy from the “Fab Five” at Michigan who went on to a great career in the NBA would ever have a starring role in a sitcom.
But just because you didn’t think he’d have a sitcom doesn’t mean a producer should give him one! Truth be told I’m rooting for Jalen here because I do like the guy, but I just cannot see this show being even remotely watchable.
