Detective Douche said in Stewardess Interruptus that one would go to crazy lengths for the ones they love. That couldn’t have been more true in tonight’s winter finale of Lucifer. Our favorite Devil goes back to Hell to find Professor Carlisle. It’s so the latter can give him the formula to save Detective Decker from the poison.
The hour began with Lucifer driving like a mad man down the streets of Los Angeles with Detective Decker. He wants to take her to the hospital (since when is he one for hospitals?). The detective doesn’t want to go to one given that the only thing that will save her is the antidote. To the precinct! It was a bit of a shock to see Ella wearing sleepwear and wide-framed glasses. Then again, she did have to rush to the precinct. Not totally hating the glasses look, Ella! I wear them too! I also totally agree with the lab technician that Lucifer and Detective Decker just needs to make out already. It looks like we got one more on this Deckerstar ship! Oh, it was also nice to meet one of Ella’s brothers.
When Amenadiel showed up, Lucifer told his brother that he wants to talk to him. Though his version of “talk” is throwing the Archangel against the wall of the interrogation room and well, interrogate him about Detective Decker. (Note to Self: Never mess with the Devil) Amenadiel told Lucifer that he doesn’t know about Detective Decker’s current situation and nor does their Father. Back to Square One!
The stay on said square doesn’t last for long, however, when two main suspects are found. One is Burt, the guy from the airport hangar and the other is an artist named Dave Maddox. They’re the ones who helped Professor Carlisle make his poison and antidote respectively. I loved the part where Detective Decker lures Burt upstairs to his room and Lucifer makes him talk. They do make a great team. I also noticed that Lucifer lent the detective his suit jacket to wear. How gentlemanly of him. When the two were about to leave Burt’s party, Detective Decker suddenly fainted as the symptoms of the poison began to kick in. To the hospital!
Now comes the dilemma of making the antidote. The good professor is in Hell suffering from his guilt about the car accident that killed an innocent student/uber driver. So what does Lucifer do? He gathers his family and Dr. Martin and tells them that he’s planning to die and go back to Hell. I laughed so hard at the scene where Lucifer asks Amenadiel and Maze which one wants to kill him. Both of them raised their hands at the same time. Hilarious! Well done, writers, well done!
With Detective Decker in the hospital, it’s up to Detective Douche and Lucifer to track down Dave Maddox. The two found the artist but got themselves tied up thanks to Detective Douche. I was fully expecting Lucifer to punch Maddox when the latter spoke poorly about Detective Decker. Guess I was proven wrong. Oh, and it was no surprise to see Lucifer get out of his handcuffs (much to Detective Douche’s chagrin). The man is the Devil after all. I felt sorry for him to have to buy one of Maddox’s paintings in exchange for the ingredients for the antidote.
Said Devil then ends up back in Hell after making Amenadiel stay with the detective. It’s so that she doesn’t leave the room while Maze kills him with the defibrillator and Dr. Martin bringing him back after a minute’s time. When the moment came to stop Lucifer’s heart, the demoness couldn’t do it. She can’t just kill her former boss because they’ve been through too much together. Lucifer then took the paddles from Maze and stopped his heart himself and off to Hell we go! Too bad he can’t just Uber there.
While in Hell, Lucifer tracked down Professor Carlisle. The latter is stuck in his personal hell and wants to be redeemed. Lucifer managed to get the antidote formula from the professor but doesn’t help him with redemption. An eye for an eye, right, Lucifer? Love the brief Devil face by the way! Then just as Lucifer was about to leave, he got trapped in his personal hell as he is confronted with the guilt of killing Uriel to protect Detective Decker and his Mother. Oh dear.
Speaking of Uriel. What did he mean by “the peace is here”? The former angel said that it was a clue of some kind. A clue to what?! Does it have anything to do with Lucifer and Detective Decker’s future? Deckerstar fans (that includes yours truly) want to know! Darn you show for making us wait until May for the rest of season two!
Back on Earth, Dr. Martin is unable to bring Lucifer back from the dead. Maze wanted to go, but demons do not have a soul. She would die instantly if she were killed. Enter Mama Morningstar who volunteered to go down to Hell to rescue Lucifer. The Goddess of Creation succeeded in pulling her Son from his personal hell only to fall into her own when she saw Uriel. Lucifer then pulled his Mother away from Uriel as they both returned to Earth. Oh, I chuckled when Maze defibrillated Charlotte. Oops indeed. #LOL
In the end, Detective Decker is cured, and we get a bit of season one nostalgia when Lucifer said, “look who’s back.” The detective wanted to talk to Lucifer about their budding relationship, but given the fact that the latter thinks that Deckerstar is not real (which it is), the discussion never took place. Detective Decker left Lucifer three hundred voice messages (didn’t know that smartphones can hold that many voicemails). She drove to LUX only to find it empty, and all the furniture were covered in white sheets. It seems that even the Devil needs some time apart from the one he loves to sort things out emotionally. I hope that he comes back to his detective’s side soon. That and we will finally find out who Candy Morningstar is. I will count down the days until the Devil returns.
