Drake Announces He’ll Be Hosting the NBA Awards

While Drake is one of the most successful musical talents today, people seem to forget that his career truly began in acting.  You might remember his roll on “Degrassi” which truly got him his start in show business.  Now Drake is going to return to television as host of the NBA awards which is slated for June 26th.   In a recent podcast with Kentucky Wildcats coach John Calipari, Drake shared his thoughts on the new gig.  According to the Toronto Sun Drake had this to say:

“I love hosting,” said Drake, noting that he is also producing the NBA Awards.  I love being in a room full of iconic, legendary people that I look up to and having that pressure to make them laugh and enjoy their evening. Hopefully, that will go well.”  Another person I really look up to, and sort of a point in time that I miss, is Johnny Carson and the appeal of … that sexy late-night TV that’s funny,” he said.  As I continue on along this journey, I hope to get there one day as well where I can just put on amazing suits every night…. I just want to put on Tom Ford (suits) every night and sit with a glass of wine and laugh with people that I’ve spent years with in the business, in the industry, or just friends of mine, and give people something to watch that makes them feel good and makes them laugh. Hopefully, I’ll get there. There’s a lot left.”

In addition to talking about the NBA awards, Drake expressed his burning desire to get back into acting.  It’s something he expressed that he’s always loved.   Currently Drake is dabbling with production and learning that side of the business.  The music star clearly has plans to extend his career way beyond the musical realm.  I wouldn’t be surprised if he followed the path of guys like Jay Z, P Diddy, and Dr Dre and becomes one of the more successful entertainer slash entrepreneurs.

Currently Drake is on tour and will be releasing “More life” but his plans when his tour is over are to get back into acting.  He expects to take on some “great roles” and we expect some solid performances from him.
