The Voice of Samurai Jack Sings “What a Wonderful World” in Character

I wonder how many people would agree that the voice of Samurai Jack is not exactly meant for a song such as What A Wonderful World. Any takers? I mean really, all I can say is WOW. And then I’ve got think of something else to write before my brain decides to short circuit in protest.

It’s got to be said, the number of bad performances coming out on Youtube and other platforms is becoming a little much some days. Grill me if you want, get after me if you want, but the wide variety of watchable content is really being peppered by the videos that are so godawful that they’re usually relegated to some obscure corner of the internet where people have to actually pull a virtual Indiana Jones crusade just to find them. And why are they there in the first place? I won’t be so unkind to say, but it’s not because they’re in a class of their own.

Samurai Jack is a cartoon that’s known by a lot of people and liked by a lot of people, but it wasn’t exactly a cartoon that was meant to be performed in this manner. If anything he could have sung the song the way it was supposed to be all the way through, or sing it completely like the famed cartoon.

Considering the Jack was flung into a dystopian future that’s run by his enemy, Aku, a lot of this song makes sense. But I’m still trying to sort out just why it needed to be done in the first place. Do people get so bored that they need to do things like this because they thing they’re that funny? Or do the fans of the show actually get a kick out of this? I’m kind of thinking at this point that the answer would be yes just because of the novelty of the whole thing. Fans love to see their favorites on TV and on the internet and the diehard fans will soak most of it up because it has something to do with one of their  favorite cartoons.

There are times when I look at humanity and just have to shake my head, but far be it from me to spoil someone else’s fun. I’m a guy writing an article after all and giving my opinion and in my opinion this is just a load of awful. It’s like a bad karaoke tribute to the world without a laugh track to make you think it’s actually amusing. Grill me Samurai Jack fans but the truth is that this video, though amusing in some spots, is kind of unneeded. The cartoon looks like it’s pretty interesting but using any part of it for this seems to be just a tad bit overkill.

But he’s obviously having fun and doing it for a purpose so I won’t condemn him, I’m just going to sit here and try to understand his motivation for doing this while I give my honest opinion about the performance.
