General Hospital fans are going to be shocked when they realize that Sonny is planning on killing himself. With the loss of his son, he’s not sure how to go on living anymore, and it’s ugly. He has a gun on him at the wedding, and Jax notices he’s got it. He doesn’t think much of it, of course, since he knows Sonny has mob ties and works in that kind of dark and dirty business. He did mention to Nelle that he has plans on going away once the funeral is over, but she thought he meant he was getting out of town and the memories that the location holds for him. It seems, however, that Sonny is contemplating suicide, and he might really go through with it.
Except that he’s going to make a mass hysteria of the entire thing. He’s going to pull the gun out at the funeral and make a spectacle of himself. He’s going to break down, threaten to kill himself right there with his son in front of all their friends and family, and people are going to panic. Can they save his life as he watches his son’s eulogy? He tells them he’s responsible for his son’s death because of the life he lives, the enemies he makes, and the things he’s done in his life. He takes all the blame for everything, and no one can change his mind about what’s going on in his life.
Jason has an idea it’s someone else’s fault entirely, but he can’t work fast enough to stop Sonny from making the biggest mistake of his life. He might not get there in time to stop Sonny’s gun from going off as they struggle. If it does go off, who is going to be the victim of the gunshot? Will it be Sonny or Jason? Or will the bullet strike someone in the audience who had nothing to do with anything other than coming to show their respects for a nice young man who died tragically? One thing we know for certain is no one will know the answer this weekend.
