Josh Gad Describes His Dreamgirls Sing-Off With Jennifer Hudson on The Tonight Show

Josh Gad

Josh Gad was on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon last night to promote his upcoming film The Angry Birds Movie, which hits theaters this Friday, and while Gad might be best known for voicing another animated character, Frozen‘s Olaf, he’s also a pretty big Broadway star. In fact, Gad really broke out with his performance in The Book of Mormon, and as he told Fallon last night, he tries to see as many Broadway shows as he can when he’s in New York.

“You know, every time I come here, I try to support, I try to be patron and go see shows,” Gad said before mentioning that the last show he saw while in New York was The Color Purple.

As many people know, Jennifer Hudson has been starring in The Color Purple on Broadway, but when Gad went backstage to talk with her, he was more interested in another musical: Dreamgirls. Hudson starred in the 2006 film adaptation of the Broadway musical and won an Oscar for he performance.

Gad not only wanted to talk with Hudson about the movie, but he also challenged her to a sing-off of sorts, as he tried to nail all the notes in the standout song she sings in the film, “And I’m Telling You.” However, as you can see in the footage that he showed during his interview with Fallon, Gad might have been a little out of his depth when it came to that song.

Watch Josh Gad discuss his sing-off with Jennifer Hudson and share a hilarious story about his two-year-old daughter in the video below:
