Empire‘s former trusted member Anika Calhoun dropped a mother of a bombshell on the Lyon family last week when she announced she was carrying Hakeem Lyon’s baby. Almost as soon as she made her announcement Anika became a target for the Lyon family, particularly its patriarch. Anika has burned so many bridges with so many people in the Lyon family, it’s a safe bet that there aren’t many people lining up to defend her. But in tonight’s episode of Empire, Anika finds herself with at least one unlikely ally.
Anika is seen as a traitor to the Lyon family. Lucious’s former paramour betrayed him to his rival, slept with his youngest son, and has since been struggling to get her footing back. She briefly allied herself with Cookie in the beginning of the season, but that too ended when Anika outwore her usefulness. The only real friend Anika has is Rhonda, and to some extent Andre since he believes in second chances. Anika’s pregnancy announcement did not go over well last week. Lucious flat out told Anika that once the baby is born she shouldn’t expect to see the child grow up, not even from a distance. So now Anika is left with the frightening possibility that she may just be an incubator for the next generation of Lyons. However as seen in the sneak peek below, Cookie may be the best, and most unexpected, ally for Anika to have on her side. Hakeem on the other hand will have a decision to make about whether or not he is ready to be a father, especially if it means going up against his own to protect his child.
“More Than Kin”-Lucious holds a fundraiser as part of a campaign to prove he should return as Empire’s CEO; Hakeem considers whether or not to be a father to Anika’s child.
