Can someone please tell me what happened to Jim Carrey? Oh right, he got older. He’s been in relationships, has kids, etc etc. Think Adam Sandler. Still though, I’m pretty sure the last time I remember seeing Carrey be even remotely funny in a movie was in Bruce Almighty, and maybe Yes Man. And I must say that’s really pushing it because in the grand scheme of things, he wasn’t really funny at all in those flicks compared to his older days. I miss the days of In Living Color and Ace Ventura.
And it’s not just shows or movies. He’s not nearly as off the wall or funny in interviews anymore. Sure he wore a woman’s bathing suit on the beach one day a few years back, but come on. It’s certainly not vintage Carrey. So wherever the real Jim Carrey is, I miss you buddy. Please come back and do an Ace Ventura III. And do it right. These videos are a tribute to the old, real Jim Carrey.

It’s not so much the overall scenes in Ace Ventura. It’s every single time he speaks that he’s funny. I feel like I picked up on a new funny thing like 100 times over from this flick. Carrey at his best.

I’m 36. Just pointing out he’s not as funny as he used to be. No he doesn’t have to crawl out of elephants’ tushies and yes, people have to evolve, but is it so bad to be nostalgic?
I disagree, I think Carrey’s sensibility with comedy mixed with his realization of age, time, and all the philosophical stuff similar to what Sandler went through has made him brighter, more likeable, and certainly cooler, although I was a big fan of the early stuff too, yes man made me love Jim Carrey and really be able to appreciate the earlier stuff to the fullest. His motivational speech in 2014 was one of the most moving things I’ve seen a celeb do ever.

The man always was and still is very funny. His recent Golden Globes presenting slot was hilarious, intelligent and incisive. He clearly is a thoughtful and introspective man who has never been willing to compromise on his choices. That’s reflected in the fact he’s never been in a bad movie. How many Hollywood actors can you say that about?
What’s the obsession with wanting him to be funny all the time anyway? Yes, he’s a superb comedy actor but he’s also a remarkably brilliant dramatic actor. The myopia of the audiences coupled with Hollywood’s gutlessness and inability to produce great and unique movies (seriously, think back to the heyday of the 80s and 90s) means that small minded writers produce mean spirited articles taking unwarranted pot shots at actors who are quite clearly secure in the fact that they are willing to take a step back from movies rather than pursue the money and fame at any cost.
Seriously, if you want to take a pop at someone for their career trajectory – how about De Niro? Dirty Grandpa anyone?
Jim Carrey is a fine and accomplished actor with an unrivalled comic ability. He doesn’t feel the need to grasp for acceptance from audiences or Hollywood and his unwillingness to feature in the modern crap that qualifies as comedy purely for the pay/exposure just furthers my admiration for him.
He’s a dignified and decent guy and the people who seem to want to shackle him as a perpetual Ace Ventura are the ones who need to reassess their logic.
Motivational speech WAS amazing. I just miss the comedy! Get my point here? I have nothing against him. He’s a great actor as I’ve mentioned. LOVED him in Truman Show. I just miss Ace Ventura. Eh, whatever.
But dude, you still have Ace Ventura. It’ll go down in the all time comedy greats list and you can rewatch it as often as you like. But nobody wants to repeat themselves forever and he’s capable of great things as an artist and you can’t expect him to produce the comedy movies at the rate he did in the mid 90s.
I think it’s clear you really like the man but the title and tone of the article just ..y’know.. seems a bit unfair. If it seems like people have jumped on you a bit, it’s nothing personal, he’s just a world treasure. People adore the guy! ; )
