Last night was one of my favorite episodes of Dancing With the Stars ever. As the series traditionally does, it gave us an episode in which songs were dedicated to the stars’ pasts, and this season, they made it a two-parter. The first part was about the star’s past and the second part was about the pro’s past, and I found it fascinating.
What did I like? First, I liked how much the star’s trained to make their professional proud. Dance after dance and all you kept hearing was how much they just wanted to do right by Witney or Louis. That also shows the viewers how the deep the relationship are becoming as both star and pro want to make the other feel glad about the dance. Secondly, any time you see one of the professional dancers cry, you know it’s going to be good. Whether it was Mark crying during his parents’ dance (and how great was Alexa pulling off his mother’s signature move?!) to Derek’s dance about leaving his bulled childhood in Utah when he moved to England, I loved it! Also, I was shocked how many dancers knew each other before the show. They had hinted at it in the past, but last night they actually showed pictures and talked about it. Julianne talked about dancing with Mark, and Witney talked about growing up with Lindsey watching Dancing With the Stars. I was shocked!
Unfortunately, last night was not all about the professionals (entirely!). It was about the celebs as well. Now, to their credit, whenever one of them messed up, even to the judges, their partner did step in and talk about learning two dances this week. That’s a very fair point. I completely agree with them. Maybe if it was later on the competition, that might not have been a good excuse, but right now, I’d say it’s pretty acceptable (ass Witney pointed out in her video montage, “What the crap guys?”)
Most of the pairs did do better than expected, although some did not understand where the judges were coming from (I’m talking about you, Carlos!). Julianne did comment to Bindi and Derek that “What I just saw was two dancers dancing as one,” Carrie Ann said that she “loved the way” Hayes and Emma “exploded” during their performance. The judges were nicer last night! Not a whole lot nicer, but still.
Now, for the part that no one wants to have happen: the elimination. The couple that had to leave Dancing With the Stars last night was…. Victor and Karina. This was a shame because last night was, as Julianne put it, “The best dance you’ve done” and now Victor’s gone. This just means you have to get your votes in if you want your favorites to survive!
