While events in Jerusalem are working against a determined Peter, events going on abroad threaten to compromise everything the Jews are working for on this week’s Dig. Just when you think you’ve got all of the pieces figured out, the last minute brings a revelation that will turn the entire conspiracy on its head.
Following Yussef Khalid’s death for the cause, Golan works his case more like a murder. Golan tracks a clue to a local barman at the café, then proceeds to search his apartment. Golan ends up finding definitive proof that the man who was there the night Yussef died is directly tied to Emma Wilson’s murder. Peter doesn’t buy it though, knowing that it’s a little too clean-cut of a win.
Peter is trying to decipher the symbol he found last week, but Lynn is still convinced Peter is compromised. No sooner does she order him off the case than Peter catches a break, finding the symbol connected to a patient, Gregory Donaldson, in a mental institution. The doctor believes that this man’s condition can be attributed to a long history of people’s obsession with the religious fervor that Jerusalem holds. Gregory has the symbol branded onto his chest and writes out “Jehoshapat” in sand for Peter to see. Peter’s next stop is to go see the patient’s girlfriend in the hopes of getting clearer answers. She explains that Gregory received a letter from his biological father on his 21st birthday, saying the Order of Moriah, a secret society responsible for his father’s death, was after him. Trusting Peter, Greg’s girlfriend gives Peter a key as the next clue in his journey.
After capturing the barman, Golan refuses to allow Peter to assist on Emma’s murder any longer, thinking Peter crazy for wanting to go down another path other than the obvious one. Desperate to get some time alone with the suspect, Peter goes too far and fakes a phone call from Golan’s son’s school. Since the suspect is all too willing to go down for the cause, Peter makes a fool of himself. Lynn has seen enough and relieves Peter of his duties, sending him home. Surprisingly, Golan is not that upset with Peter’s action, giving Peter the confidence he needs to trust Golan with the key he found, so that Golan can continue the investigation on his own. Before Peter can even get started packing, he gets a surprise visit…from a very much alive Emma Wilson.
Back in the U.S., Debbie and Charlie, who I can now confirm is not her brother, but her boyfriend, are now on the run with Josh 2.0, trying to plan out their next move. They decide to wait out the night and head to the nearest FBI office in the morning. Naïve beyond belief, Debbie unchains Josh 2.0 only to find him gone from the hotel room to play a coin machine downstairs. Josh can’t understand why Debbie believes his “teachers” are so wrong. Debbie doesn’t get the chance to explain before Billingham arrives. He doesn’t get Debbie or Josh, but he does get her boyfriend Charlie, whom Billingham uses as leverage to keep Debbie quiet.
Somewhere in Europe, Avram and the red heifer have been kidnapped. Avram believes he and his travel companion are stopping for Shabbat, but he quickly realizes that this man’s prayers are not like his. His prayer was from the scrolls, not the Torah. Avram places a call to his mentor, who tells him this man is an Essene, not one of them and that he needs to be put down. The white-robed man gets the drop on him before Avram can finish him off, and instead he shows Avram mercy like God did with Abraham and Isaac. Avram’s hysteria is only heightened when he returns to find the red heifer gone. It would seem that events abroad may prevent the events supposed to unfold in Jerusalem.
Did you see Emma Wilson’s return from the dead coming? How will her return change the events of the series?
