And just like that there are 10 contestants left on the thirteenth season of American Idol. Tonight’s elimination didn’t surprise many, but that’s alright because I don’t think anyone is complaining with the remaining competitors.
On Wednesday night, the contestants sang their heart out making judges (and America) believe we have one of the next big singing sensations in the mix. Ryan Seacrest revealed after the performances that the bottom three contestants were Sam Wolfe, Ben Briley, and Majesty Rose.
Before the elimination was announced Harry Connick Jr. took the stage to sing “One Fine Thing” and “Come By Me”. I guess there is an audience for Connick Jr.’s music, but his crooning into the microphone and ivory percussion in the background just isn’t for me. Anyway…
And the odd-man out was…. Ben Briley.
The choice was pretty obvious after Ben tried to pass off “Benny and the Jets”, a move that didn’t earn him any points whatsoever with anyone. Ben chose to sing Grace Potter and the Nocturnals song “Stars” for his ‘Save Me’ effort. I didn’t think his performance was bad, and I don’t think any of the judges did either, but it just wasn’t enough to keep him in the game. Keith Urban’s comments were that he wished Ben showed more of an artistic side when he took the stage – I guess I can see that.
The Ten Finalists are: Sam Wolfe, Majesty Rose, C.J. Harris, Jessica Meuse, Dexter Roberts, Caleb Johnson, MK Nobilette, Alex Preston, Jena Irene and Malaya Watson. I can’t even begin to tell you who I think is going to win this. Either way, it should be a tight competition going forward.
