Captain America: Brave New World Teaser Trailer Breakdown

After much anticipation, Captain America: Brave New World will hit movie theaters on February 14, 2024. In the wake of this exciting news, a teaser trailer has also landed. Although the trailer is short, there is still plenty to be dissected.

The trailer unveils dazzling action set pieces, new MCU characters, and other major reveals. The first thing to note is that the trailer brings forth a different tone as Marvel Phase Five continues its epic pace. So, let’s break down everything we know and pinpoint some things that you may have missed.

What Is the Plot of Captain America: Brave New World?

After toying with the idea of a trailer for a few days, the official teaser finally dropped on July 12, 2024. With Anthony Mackie occupying much of the footage, his presence as the leading man has been cemented. Captain America: Brave New World will focus on Sam Wilson (Mackie), who’s officially taken up the mantle of Captain America. However, he soon finds himself on his biggest mission yet as he is thrown into the middle of an international incident. When speaking with EW in April 2024, Mackie shed some light on his character rising to the forefront. He said: “Even though I’ve been in so many of them and have seen it all now, the opportunity for Sam to really establish himself as a true action star and Avenger comes with this movie.”

What the New Characters Tell Us About the Movie

When Giancarlo Esposito was spotted on the set of Captain America: Brave New World, speculation quickly spread that he would be playing a villain, with characters like Professor X, Magneto, and Doctor Doom being thrown into the mix. However, no exact details were announced. In the teaser trailer, a slick shot of Esposito toting a gun and looking extremely menacing caused even more rumors to mill that he would be playing G.W. Bridge, a character from the comics who has links to Cable’s Wild Pack. However, during an appearance at a convention, Esposito seemed to debunk this, but potentially confirmed he will be playing a baddie. He said: “The character I’m playing is a badass. That always excites me. For me to develop that character in line with the character’s inception is a fascinating art for me. I had an incredible time shooting it. I’m not telling you who I’m playing…people are trying to guess and no one has guessed correctly yet.”

Although Esposito’s role is still shrouded in mystery, it has been confirmed that Harrison Ford will be playing Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross, the new President of the United States. This will mark his debut in the MCU. Ford will be replacing William Hurt, who previously appeared in five MCU movies before sadly passing away in 2022. Where Ford’s appearance in the trailer gets really exciting is with his transformation into Red Hulk.

Because of his fixation with Bruce Banner’s Hulk, General “Thunderbolt” Ross in the original comics teams up with the Intelligencia, a squad of villains, in order to obtain his own gamma powers. After transforming into Red Hulk, Ross was a villain for a while until he learned to manage his transformation and kept his mind intact. He then joined the Thunderbolts and the Avengers. The notion of Ford taking on the role of Red Hulk had been swirling in the ether for a while. It was then teased on the official movie poster. Now, with a brief shot seen in the trailer, it has pretty much been confirmed.

Other Things You May Have Missed in the Teaser Trailer

Captain America: Brave New World (2025)

The most obvious thing to point out in the trailer is Sam Wilson’s costume, which is strikingly different from the one seen in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. Although it is not uncommon for character’s costumes to change, this darker suit could be tying in with a more darker movie. Additionally, Eagle-eyed fans may have noticed Isaiah Bradley making a blink and you might miss it appearance in the trailer. In the brief shot, he appears to be attacking Thunderbolt Ross, alluding to the fact that he turns villainous in the movie. This would be a big character swerve, as in the Disney+ series, he is the man who convinces Sam Wilson to pick up the shield.

As well as Danny Ramirez appearing in the trailer as Falcon, we also get a sneak peek at Tiamut. Seeing as this huge Celestial being hasn’t been given life since it was left in the ocean in Eternals, its appearance could be nodding to a bigger part in Captain America: Brave New World. Until the full-length trailer lands, here’s why we think Sam Wilson makes a great leader for The Avengers.
