Henry Cavill‘s final run as the white wolf in this fantasy series is expected to hit your screens by the end of June. Andrzej Sapkowski‘s second book, “Time of Contempt”, inspired The Witcher season 3. In this book, Geralt will fight to keep his new-found family together.
While fans are used to seeing the tough version of Geralt fighting monsters, this season is more about coming to terms with his feelings for Ciri and Yennefer. While this family will finally be together, will their happy ending last? Below you’ll find everything you need to know about The Witcher season 3!
Which Cast Members Are Returning for Season 3 of The Witcher?
While news of Cavill leaving the Netflix show has already been confirmed, he will reprise his role as Geralt for The Witcher‘s third season. Freya Allan will return as Cirilla/Ciri, with Anya Chalotra returning as Yennefer of Vengerberg. Other cast members you should expect to see this season include Joey Batey as Jackie, Royce Pierreson as Istredd, Kim Bodnia as Vesemir, and Anna Shaffer as Triss Merigold.
In October 2022, Netflix announced that Liam Hemsworth would replace Cavill as the series star. Needless to say, most fans didn’t take it too well. Around this time, Cavill released a statement about his exit from the DCEU, which for fans only seemed more heartbreaking. So expect a different-looking Geralt in The Witcher Season 4. Bart Edwards will play the main villain, Emperor Emhyr, which was hinted at the end of the second season. Some new faces joining this season include Robbie Amell from The Flash as Gallatin and Shang-Chi’s Meng’er Zhang as Milva. There’s also Hugh Skinner as King Vizimir’s brother, Prince Radovid, and Christell Elwin as Mistle.
What Is the Plot of The Witcher Season 3?
While The Witcher Season 3 will be the last time Cavill will portray the white wolf, in an interview with EW, he said that this season will likely be the closest to the book adaptations. Cavill clarified that the third season would focus on the “Time of Contempt”. While they couldn’t adapt the book page by page, they got plenty of action events, plot points, and character moments that will entice fans. The conflict between the elves and Nilfgaard will still be a significant plot point for this season.
The show’s official synopsis states that Geralt will do anything to keep his recently reunited family safe. Yennefer has the duty of training Ciri to discover her untapped power. But what she thought would be a safe haven in the fortress of Aretuza turned out to be a battlefield of another kind. Ciri, the daughter of chaos, is expected to be a world destroyer or savior. So everyone, including her dead father, will want to manipulate that power for themselves. With the wild hunt coming after her because of her elder blood, this trio needs to stick together now more than ever. So expect lots of magic and spells when the mages are involved.
When Will Season 3 Be Released?
Although it seems like forever, Netflix has confirmed that The Witcher Season 3 will be released in two parts. Volume One drops on June 29, 2023, while Volume 2 will be available on Netflix on July 27, 2023. The release date came together with the first official trailer for Season 3. While the first two seasons only had eight episodes, it won’t be a surprise if Netflix releases ten episodes.
