Earlier this year at the Chicago Comic & Entertainment Expo, Marvel Comics announced its Marvel Legacy initiative. Unlike recent relaunches which placed greater emphasis on the creation of new superheroes, the Marvel Legacy relaunch which focuses on expanded and redefining the older, more popular heroes. According to Joe Quesada, the Chief Creative Officer of Marvel Comics, the company is using this new initiative as a modality to embrace its roots through the creation of a new line of comic books that revisit old heroes and cast them in a more expansive way.relaunches which placed greater emphasis on the creation of new superheroes, the Marvel Legacy relaunch which focuses on expanded and redefining the older, more popular heroes. According to Joe Quesada, the Chief Creative Officer of Marvel Comics, the company is using this new initiative as a modality to embrace its roots through the creation of a new line of comic books that revisit old heroes and cast them in a more expansive way.
The editor-in-chief for Marvel Comics, Axel Alonso, stated that this relaunch is also a good way of reminding its old readers and new readers of the remarkably rich history that Marvel has in the comic book industry. Following are five reasons that we are getting excited about Marvel Legacy!
1. The Awakening of a New Generation
For the majority of the younger viewers, there is no nostalgia associated with watching the release of the live film versions of these comic book characters, which is actually one of the most awesome experiences one can enjoy. For many, it is the first time that they have observed the stories behind each character, and that is a shame. Marvel Legacy will give young viewers a peek inside of the heritage of each of these super heroes and the storylines and characters behind their lives, as well as the motives behind their drive.
2. The All-New Wolverine Launch
There is no doubt the X-Men character, Wolverine, has given filmmakers plenty of content from which to pervade their films with. He has personality and he is mysterious at the same time. This new release of a comic book that will focus specifically on him will allow Marvel to open up and expand the character, which can only make him more exciting. Simultaneously, the company will be creating more material for film releases down the line and for years to come.
3. The Amazing Spider-Man
With the exception of Superman and Batman, one could argue that Spider-man has gotten a great deal of exposure over the last two decades – awakening an entirely new audience to the complex nature and brute force of this hero. The relaunch of a comic book series will not only allow Marvel to reintroduce the character, but it will allow true comic book readers who use their imagination to live out the stories, something that films can limit with its concrete plot presentations and storylines.
4. The Impressive Artwork
When the comic books for most of the superheroes that will be featured in Marvel Legacy were initially released, the artwork and the art tools and technology were primitive in comparison to today’s artwork and sketch mastery. The existing new technology and techniques used in sketch art today will provide more vivid and colorful artwork to help break out the stories. This will serve to enrich the expansion of each of these heroes.
5. The Introduction of Primer Stories
The Marvel Legacy series will feature three-page primer stories that are designed to introduce its newer readers to each character. These primers will provide readers with important background information on the heroes being featured in the comic book in order to help them quickly get up to speed on just who each of these heroes is, how they came to be and what motivates them to do what they do day in and day out.
