If you’re a soap opera fan, William deVry’s face is probably very familiar to you. William has been a cast member on General Hospital for the last seven years, but it looks like his time on the show may have come to an abrupt end. Several sources have reported that he has been let go from the show. The motive for this decision hasn’t been made entirely clear, but regardless of the reason, fans are upset. William seems to be taking it all in stride at the moment, but getting let go from a job is never an easy thing to deal with. Hopefully it won’t be long before he finds himself back on our screens. 1. He Is Canadian

William has been in the American entertainment industry for so long that most of his fans probably think he’s from the United States. In reality, however, William was born and raised in Montreal, Canada and didn’t move to the US until he was almost 20 years old.

2. He Has A Connection To deVry University

If you’ve ever seen William’s last name and wonder if he has any connection to deVry University, the answer is yes. The school was actually founded by William’s grandfather, Herman A. deVry. The school, which is based in Chicago, was originally named  DeForest Training School after being opened in 1931. The name was changed to deVry University in 1995.

3. General Hospital Wasn’t His Only Soap Opera Role

These days, fans recognize William best for his role as Julian Jerome on General Hospital, but his relationship with soap operas began long before that. He made his debut soap opera appearance with a small role in Port Charles in 2002 followed by All My Children in 2003. He then went on to be in the The Bold and the Beautiful from 2006 to 2012.

4. He Is An Emmy Nominee

Acting can sometimes be a thankless job, but nothing says thanks for your hard work like being considered for a major award. William was nominated for a Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series for his work on All My Children. The award ultimately went to Rick Hearst who played Ric Lansing on General Hospital.

5. He Traveled A Lot Growing Up

Visiting different places and experiencing other cultures is something that nothing else can quite compare to. William spent a lot of time traveling when he was younger and he got the chance to visit places all over the world. He even spent some time living on the continent of Africa.

6. He Isn’t Afraid To Share His Political Views

William isn’t shy about his political stance and he has very openly expressed his distaste for president Trump. Some people have have even suggested that William was let go from the show due to his political opinions. However, he quickly shut that idea down on Twitter. In a tweet he said, “Nobody is getting fired for “political views”. Nobody. People get fired for racist, misogynistic remarks, or intolerance. Not political views. Every can take a deep breath.”

7. He Has Been In Movies

His roles on the small screen are what William is best-known for, but he has also done some movie roles. He made his film debut in the 1995 movie, Once in a Blue Moon. His most recent film appearance was in 2014’s The Outsider. Perhaps now we’ll see him on the big screen again now that his time General Hospital has come to an end.

8. He Loves To Workout

William may be a middle aged man, but that doesn’t mean that he has to have a dad bod. He loves to stay active and working out is a part of his regular routine. Even if he can’t make it to the gym, he likes to get his workouts in at home. He also likes to stay active by going on hikes and exploring walking trails.

9. He Is Passionate About Cancer Awareness

Ovarian cancer awareness is the cause that William has been most passionate about throughout his career. He is a celebrity ambassador for Sandy Rollman Ovarian Cancer Foundation and he has worked hard to help the organization raise money and spread information about the disease.

10. He Is A Baseball Fan

Before William ever had dreams of becoming an actor, his goal was to become a professional baseball player for the Montreal Expos. However, his plans changed after a friend suggested he take an acting class in college. Even though he decided to pursue acting instead of sports, he remains a dedicated baseball fan.
