10 Things You Didn’t Know about Nick Offerman

For those that loved Parks and Recreation recognizing this guy is no problem since Ron Swanson has been such a big name throughout TV over the years. But Nick Offerman is one of those guys that you might not have expected to become such a great comedian since he’s so serious-looking and barely ever seems to crack a real smile. But when you listen to him and watch his performances you can’t help but be the first to crack a smile since his style is something that catches many people off guard and tends to elicit the laughs in a very natural but unexpected way. That being said he’s done both drama and comedy and very rarely has anyone ever mistaken one for the other since he tends to look the same for each and every role. That’s a big part of why people have come to like him, they know what to expect, just not when.

Here are a few things about Nick some people might not know.

10. Nick is an accomplished woodworker.

In his spare time he devotes a lot of his efforts to woodworking and he tends to like making furniture. The hobbies that actors take up in their spare time are highly interesting since some of them are a genuine surprise.

9. He’s a very good dancer apparently.

Nick enjoys dancing with his wife and is very much into the idea that using the right face while dancing can make all the difference. For instance, if one looks too serious while dancing like a maniac then of course they’re going to look a bit odd. But if you really get into the music there’s a good chance a lot of people will simply enjoy themselves without judging you.

8. Nick is more about the cutting one-liners than the wild, sustained comedic act.

If you’ve ever noticed in his many performances he doesn’t go off on a tirade like his costars tend to do at times. Instead he kind of picks his moments and then strikes when he feels it’s necessary, or when the writers feel he can get the right jab in. That alone makes him one of the funniest people of all since it stops people in their tracks very effectively.

7. He enjoys movies like Stand By Me and The Goonies.

What he enjoys about them is the idyllic way that they portray young people escaping their bonds for a time and finding a path in life that they choose rather than one that’s been selected for them. This is something a lot of us can agree is refreshing since it also includes the youngsters returning to safety when they’ve had their fill of freedom.

6. His advice to future actors is to do something that makes you happy.

One of the things that has made him happy for so long is being able to go home to his wife and have her in his life throughout the years. The one thing he has always preached to younger actors on their way up is to have something in their life that makes the job worth it in one way or another.

5. He’s actually not like his character Ron Swanson in real life.

A lot of people might think that he’s very much like Ron when he’s off screen but apparently he’s a lot more effeminate by his own reckoning and isn’t quite the same person as he portrays on TV or in movies.

4. He has a very deadpan delivery that people love.

There are quite a few characters that are able to deliver jokes and play roles like this but Nick is one of those that has perfected it since he can keep a straight face most of the time when others are trying hard not to crack up.

3. A lot of his characters have that silent machismo to them.

He has shown a few softer moments in his films and even on TV throughout the years but quite often it’s been seen that his characters don’t really show a whole lot of emotion and are kind of mentally and emotionally tough.

2. It’s hard to identify him without his beard and mustache.

His mustache and beard combo are kind of like his trademark since without them people have a hard time recognizing him. With one or the other gone it’s a little bit hard to recognize him but with both gone a lot of people have failed to pick him out of a crowd.

1. He started out as a theater actor.

Like so many others that have come before and after him Nick did get his start on stage and he was quite good at it actually. It seems wherever he goes however that he’s uniquely suited to the role that he’s put into.

When making a list of people that are fun to watch he definitely ranks somewhere near the top.
