It’s hard to think that we’re marching boldly into the 30th season of the Simpsons already but here it is. Throughout the last three decades there have been plenty of insane theories and ideas about many things on the show that people have never fully understood or perhaps have simply found odd before moving on to other matters. Some of the theories that have come up have been nothing more than random thoughts that might flit about and catch the attention of anyone that wants to entertain them, but there are some that people have actually seen as plausible in the confines of the show and have debated more than once throughout the years. When it comes to the Simpsons there are a lot of ideas that carry a lot of weight thanks to how the show is set up, but some just seem to make a great deal of sense.
Here are a few theories about the Simpsons that might actually make you wonder a bit.
10. Marge shot Mr. Burns.
We all know that Mr. Burns fingered Maggie for the shot that nearly killed him, but it’s been believed that Marge had plenty of motive and the opportunity to do the deed and likely pulled the trigger despite what Burns said. It’s been known for a while that Burns has a thing for Marge and likely didn’t want to get her into trouble, and he knew very well that a baby wouldn’t be taken into custody.
9. The Simpsons are all actually geniuses.
If you think about it, Lisa is the only one that seems to want to flaunt her genius in the family since it’s believed that she’s the smartest and revels in it. But when Homer’s doctor finds a crayon lodged in his brain the removal of said crayon turns him into a super-genius that rivals his daughter’s intelligence. Plus, Bart has shown moments of great intelligence but chooses to act like a hooligan, while Marge is a smart lady but has too much on her hands to flaunt it.
8. People rarely age in Springfield.
It’s been 30 years now and almost no one has aged. Yet if you take a look at those that have left the town you might see that some of them have been getting on in years. It’s almost as though time hits a no passing zone once it reaches the border of Springfield.
7. Barney and Nelson are connected.
Nelson is undoubtedly one of those bullies that just lives to make life miserable for everyone, but Barney seems to be the type that regrets a lot of things in his life. The theory is that Barney is Nelson from the future, come back to try and tell Nelson to mend his harmful ways. Unfortunately Barney ended up in Moe’s Tavern and after ten or twenty too many just forgot what he was supposed to be doing.
6. Smithers was supposed to be African-American.
This seems like it would have been a bad idea since Smithers is so subservient to Mr. Burns that it would have likely caused a problem or two. But it’s also a point that’s been refuted in the past as the strange coloring to Smithers’ character was said to be a mistake.
5. Maude Flanders was kind of a non-character.
Quite honestly before her death she wasn’t around a whole lot and didn’t seem to care about Ned being in trouble or being emotional all that often. In fact it’s kind of safe to say that she was just barely there most of the time and kind of hid in the background.
4. A lot of the later seasons are just dreams Home has while he’s in a vegetative state.
This would go a long way towards explaining just how Homer gets to do so much in his life and how no one ever ages in the show. But it would also seem to indicate that the show will be over when Homer finally wakes up. Who knows what would happen if this turned out to be true.
3. Homer has kept his job because he’s an obvious moron.
Mr. Burns knows this of course and that’s why Homer is where he’s at. He’s the kind of guy that just wants to kick back and take a nap or an extended donut break and doesn’t really worry too much about safety unless he absolutely has to. That saves Burns a lot of money and trouble that might otherwise put him out of business.
2. Homer is aware of his status as a cartoon.
If you’ll notice Homer gets hurt a LOT. Some of the injuries he takes would be too much for a single person to just walk away from, but arguing the fact that he knows he’s a cartoon would spare him from having to think about the damage he’s doing to his own body as he knows that just like a Looney Toon he’ll bounce back.
1. Bart is the eventual creator of the Simpsons
This would mirror the whole idea that the creator already started since he took on the idea of crafting a story from his own family as well. So it would be kind of poetic in a way to find out that this is the ultimate reveal that we’re waiting for down the line.
There are a lot of theories that go along with this show, but some are even more convincing than others.
