5-year-old Reenacts Iconic Women for Black History Month in Adorable Photos

While it’s tough to talk about The Cosby Show in a positive light these days, one of the things I absolutely loved about the show was how close the family was and how the Huxtable made it fun for their children to learn about culture, music, history, current events, and all of the other things going on in the world.  The Cosby Show made it fun by having numerous episodes see the family dress up, do reenactments as family, go to significant events, and more.  As a parent I’ve always loved shows that portray family in such a fun way.  It makes you want to teach your kids the same things and encourage them to have fine while learning it.

I bring this up because today I came across a mother who is teaching her daughter all about Black History month but in one of the best ways possible.   One woman has been posting a photo every day to teach her daughter–and to remind the rest of us–of the black women we should be grateful for. To make the learning more adorable, Cristi Smith-Jones has been dressing and posing her 5-year-old daughter Lola as all the greats.

“She’ll be able to look back at them years from now, and hopefully have fond memories, and still feel empowered,” Smith-Jones said. “Because I want her to learn more about black history than just those we feature, we talk about other significant figures, watch movies and videos online, things of that nature.”
