New Jack City is a 1991 crime thriller movie about a drugs ring in New York City that was Mario Van Peebles directorial debut. It is based on a screenplay written by Thomas Lee Wright. Wesley Snipes
Snipes played a drug kingpin called Nino Brown and he murdered Scotty’s mother. Wesley Snipes is still in the public eye, both in film and television. His life hasn’t always been a bed of roses, though. In 2006, Snipes faced an income tax conviction.
Ice-T
In the film, he plays Scotty Appleton, a police detective. Ice-T’s real name is Tracy Lauren Marrow and he is a well-known actor, singer, and rapper who is still enjoying the limelight now. His most recent acting role was in the 2017 film, ‘Bloodrunners’. In 2006, he had his own reality series on E! called ‘Ice Loves Coco’. This follows his relationship with his wife, Nicole ‘Coco’ Austin.
Allen Payne
In New Jack City, Allen Payne plays Gerald ‘Gee Money’ Wells, a childhood friend of Nino’s. Other than his role in this film, he is best-known for playing C.J. Payne in the television series, ‘Tyler Perry’s House of Payne’. This was aired from 2006 to 2012.
Chris Rock
Rock takes on the role of a homeless crack addict called ‘Pookie’ Benny Robinson. Rock continues to have a career in film, television, comedy, theater, and production. In 2015, he won the Black Reel Award for Best Screenplay. In 2016, He hosted the 88th Academy Awards. He is playing himself in the 2017 film, ‘Sandy Wexler’.
Judd Nelson
Nelson plays Scotty’s partner in the investigation, Nick Peretti. He currently plays the role of Billy Beretti in ‘Empire and is working on ‘Cojot’, in which he is the narrator. In 2013, he turned his talents to writing and authored four books, all of which were released on Kindle.
Mario Van Peebles
In addition to directing the film, Van Peebles also plays Stone who is the leader of the CMB police operation. His most recent film role was in the 2014 film, ‘Drumline: A New Beat’. In terms of television roles, he appeared in the 2017 series, ‘Bloodline’, which he also directed.
Michael Michele
This American actress and fashion designer played Nino Brown’s girlfriend, Selina Thomas. Michele hasn’t appeared in a film since 2003 when she played Judy Spear in ‘How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days’. Her most recent television role was in ‘Blue Bloods’ in which she played Lois Potter in an episode called ‘Unbearable Loss’.
Bill Nunn
Nunn played Nino’s personal bodyguard and a CMB enforcer in New Jack City. He had an active stage and film career until 2015. Unfortunately, Bill Nunn died from Leukaemia on September 26, 2016. He was married to Donna Nunn and they had two children.
