10 Things You Didn’t Know about “The Parent Trap

The Parent Trap is a remake based on the movie of the same name made back in the early 60’s. The plot of the movie is that twin sisters who were separated at birth reunite during summer camp and then, after discovering who they are to each other, switch places and eventually try to get their parents back together. There’s plenty of laughs along the way and a few gags that are meant to be cute and somewhat impish since there’s a big roadblock that stands in the way getting their parents together, but overall it was a part that helped make Lindsay Lohan one of the most well-known child stars ever.

It’s still considered a classic.

10. For the split scenes Lohan would wear an earpiece that would allow her to hear the dialogue of the other sister.

This would make an easier dialogue between Lohan and her other self and provide less of a gap in between the different parts of the conversation. Plus it would look more natural.

9. This was Lohan’s first movie.

This was pretty good for for a debut to be honest and it managed to get her noticed and signed to other parts eventually.

8. The lost boy in camp was her brother.

Lohan is known for bringing her family on set in her movies in one way or another as extras.

7. The woman that played the wicked girlfriend in the original movie plays the mother of the wicked girlfriend in this movie.

It’s nice to see at least some of the original cast brought back into remakes, it’s kind of an homage to the original film.

6. When Lohan was 11 she skipped school to go to the audition for this role.

She faked being sick so that she could make her way to the audition. Good thing she did since there was a lot of competition.

5. It took a lot of time and a lot of takes to get the twin sisters shot just right.

Lohan had to keep changing clothing and positioning herself differently for each shot so that they could get the twins together and make it work.

4. The movie shows the mother of the girls getting deliberately drunk and smoking.

That might be something you’d see now considering that Disney owns so many different properties but in the 90’s it wasn’t really heard of all that often.

3. Camp Walden is based on a real camp.

The camp is up in Maine and runs for seven weeks instead of eight. It also doesn’t have an isolation cabin.

2. The movie took almost nine months to shoot.

A lot of it was getting the twin shots down correctly and making sure that Lohan was in character for a good deal of the time.

1. Lindsay Lohan is allergic to horses.

This seems like it would have been a big problem since the twin that went with her father lived on a huge ranch with a vineyard and horses that she and her dad rode all the time.

It was a cute film.
