10 Things You Didn’t Know about the Movie “Hellboy”

Hellboy is one of those movies that should have been incredibly gory and possibly filled with things of the occult and dealings with devils and demons alike that you would think might give it a strong R rating. But as much fun as it was and as campy as it got the blood and guts portion of it was kept very light. In fact the only time such things happened it was entertaining but not nearly realistic enough. The movie was saved by the fact that it did have funny moments and did feature a very dependable cast that played their roles quite well.

I honestly didn’t expect Hellboy to be like he was in the film, more juvenile than anything.

10. The makeup for Hellboy took up to 4 hours.

It’s not just the red paint and contacts. The horns, the Right Hand of Doom, and every other piece of the costume had to be perfect.

9. Ron Perlman dressed up as Hellboy to fulfill a wish made by a kid.

He went to see a boy named Zachary who was diagnosed with leukemia to fulfill his wish. Zachary also got made up like Hellboy and they got to spend the day together.

8. There was almost a Hellboy 3.

It was on the mind of both Perlman and Guillermo Del Toro but it was eventually scrapped as not being a good idea.

7. The new Hellboy will be a reboot.

It won’t be a continuation of the original films, and it will star David Harbour as the titular character. It will also be a lot more hardcore than the original.

6. Jeffrey Tambor stepped in kind of at the last minute.

He wasn’t the first actor to be picked for his role, but at the very least he added something to it and made himself stand out.

5. Perlman thought that following on the heels of Deadpool a Hellboy 3 might be possible.

That would have likely been a very big mistake since following on the heels of Deadpool would have meant that the third Hellboy movie would have had to be something unique and mind-blowing.

4. Abe’s voice was dubbed by David Hyde Pierce.

If you recognized the voice it’s not much of a surprise since he played Niles on Frasier.

3. Perlman broke a rib during the subway scene.

He managed to jump onto a train doing forty-five miles an hour and sustained the injury. It probably wasn’t that great of an idea but it made a great shot.

2. The Right Hand of Doom almost became the left hand.

The producers wanted to make it the left hand in order to give Perlman use of his right hand. But they quickly found out that Perlman is left-handed so it worked out just fine.

1. Ron Perlman read the comics and worked out constantly for the role.

He would work out about five to seven days a week and would even be working out on the set to get himself ripped and fit for the role. Plus having read the comics helped him to get into character.

He was good for the role while it lasted.
