Zack Snyder Shares Teaser Trailer For His Short Film Called “Snow Steam Iron”

So far the only info on Snow Steam Iron that anyone can find thus far is this trailer, and it looks just intriguing enough to watch when it’s finally released. As far as Zack Snyder is telling he made this on a lark, not for any big budget studio and not for any other reason than because he wanted to. That’s some serious devotion to his craft and it’s automatically impressive.

One thing you know about Zack Snyder and his films is that he loves to go dark. The dark colors, the dark undertones, everything has a definite layer of gray to black around it that gives his productions a seriously depressing yet serious feel. Man of Steel was heavily criticized for this since it didn’t seem to fit with the mythos of Superman at all. What people fail to realize is that the Brandon Routh Superman was just as criticized on the other end of the spectrum. Some said it felt phony, unreal, and too much like a comic book.

Snyder is the kind of director and film maker that yanks you out of you precious comfort zone and dunks you head first into the dark, steamy world of a tale that’s been told a few times but not ever in this manner. He’s delivered the kind of epic tales that will be remembered in one way or another for a long, long time. This new film looks promising simply because it’s got his stamp all over it. From the shadows that seem to pool in every corner to the desperate look of the what has to be the female lead, it is definitely a Snyder work.

More than this though, it’s something that will make you sit back and think. So many movies these days are cookie-cutter schlock that people willingly accept because the same thing has been seen to work in the past. While Snyder’s look at the tales he’s been responsible for re-telling is serious to the point of being just too depressing at times he’s still a revolutionary because he won’t bother holding your hand during the telling. He won’t coddle you, he won’t let you down easy. When the action hits, when the dramatic points hit, you are on your own and it’s up to you to figure out just how it makes you feel.

That’s the true art of cinema, and the real revolution. If you’re making a kiddie film then it’s expected that you stick to a very strict number of guidelines and follow them to the letter. But if you’re making anything else then it’s time to cut loose and do what it takes to get the audience’s attention. Tell a story, but tell it in a way that won’t protect the viewer’s sensibilities. If they don’t like it they can get up and leave, they paid for their ticket so their sudden absence won’t be much of a problem. Those that stay however are typically those that can make up their own minds about what to watch and might be excited at the prospect of something new.
