Young and the Restless fans sometimes struggle to figure out what exactly the Abbott and Newman families have in common other than half their family members. Who is related to whom, and why, and how did all this happen? The show is one that’s been around for a long time, so there is a good chance you might not know for certain how these people are related, what that means for them, or how it works at all. Now is the time to sit back and let us give you a bit of an explanation as to how their families work and why this worked out the way that it did.
The Abbott Family
John Abbott was married to Gloria for a long time, but he had a long relationship with Dina when they were married, too. She had kids with him. These kids include Jack, Ashley, and Traci. However, it turns out that she did not have Jack or Ashley with her husband, John Abbott. Neither of them knew this until they were adults, but they were both the product of affairs their mother had. She only had Traci with her husband, John. However, all three remain close even after finding out they all have different fathers. Billy Abbot is their brother by John and Jill. But there is another issue here as he is not technically related to either Jack or Ashley at this point.
Jack had kids with Nikki, who is now a Newman, and they have John Abbott III, who is deceased. Kyle is his son with Diane. Kyle is the nephew of Billy, but they just found out how they have no actual relationship with one another now that they know Jack is not an Abbott. Ashley only has one child, and that child is Abby. Abby is the daughter of Victor Newman, and she has a deceased sister, Faith, with the same parents.
The Newman Family
This is where these families get a little complicated. For one, we know Victor is the man in charge, but his family goes back a long way. He has many children. He married Nikki, and they gave birth to Victoria, who is their daughter. Their daughter later married Billy Abbott, and it killed her father. He had her arrested on their wedding day, even though he knew his wife was once an Abbott with Jack as her partner. She adopted his child with Chelsea Lawson, and she has Johnny for herself. And they also had Nick. He married Sharon, and they had Noah. They also had Faith. Sharon went on to have more kids with other men, including Mariah.
Sharon went on to leave Nick, marry Jack Abbott Jr., Adam Newman, Victor Newman, and Tucker McCall while Nick married Phyllis and had Summer. Nikki had an affair with Paul and had Dylan. She later married Greg, Kevin, Tony, Jack, Josh, David, and Deacon. Victor married Ashely, they had Abby. Then Victor married Leanna, Hope, and he had Adam with Hope. Then he married Diane, Sabrina, and Sharon. It was a very big situation for all of them, and they have to deal with the fact that they all have family with other families.
Victor has brought an Abbott baby into his life even though he said he doesn’t want any of his own family with the Abbotts. Abby belongs to Ashley, and he has kids who have kids with other people in that family and he doesn’t like it. Their feud is one that goes back a long way, and it’s not one he is willing to give up at all unless there is a chance he can get something from it. Not all of Victor’s kids belong to Nikki, and not all of their situation works well all the time. She’s constantly torn between both of these families, and that is something she makes very obvious on a regular basis. She is happy with Victor right now, but that never lasts too long. They might end up cheating on another again since that is how they typically like to do things in their household. It’s ugly, but it works for them every single time.
