It is often believed, even argued, that women have a more accurate sense of intuition. According to neuroscience, it comes down to biology and how the female brain is structured to enable faster, more intuitive decision-making.
To support these findings, we collected firsthand accounts from women on Threads who shared eye-opening experiences that led them to trust their gut more. Some of them were even saved from life-threatening situations.
Scroll through and see how eerily accurate women’s intuition can be at times. Ladies, if you have stories to share, feel free to share them in the comments.

A year before I had to run for my life through the woods I had a gut feeling to start training on the treadmill again.
Women, listen to your intuition. It’s always right.
Ex threatened me after years of torment. I ran one night and had to [run] through the woods while he drove around looking for me. Our town was quite small and surrounded by woods. I hid in a dead tree for hours while he blew up my phone until I finally got a call through and got saved.

Last winter I was trying to pass time in a boring uni lecture by flipping through snapchat ‘stories’. I saw the ‘story’ of a girl I went to HS with for one year, but hadn’t spoken to in probably 3 or more years, it was just a black background with a single peace emoji. I thought it was weird but kept flipping through other ‘stories’. I couldn’t get away from the feeling that something was definitely, definitely wrong. I ended up messaging her a bit and chatting with her and she was definitely in a crisis.
A few weeks later she told me that she tried taking her own life that night, and after my conversation with her, she went to the ER and was now (weeks later) doing much better and getting help. I can’t even explain why I knew something was off. I was on fb chat with my roommate and asked her what she thought and she told me it was probably nothing, just an inside joke or end to a snap story that didn’t upload properly or something. I was like yeah, you’re probably right, and logically, that is what would make the most sense… But still, I somehow couldn’t get over the feeling that things weren’t right. I could just FEEL it. I’m very glad I listened to my gut.

In 1995, I started having panic attacks that my husband was going to pass away. He commuted an hour from work and if he was even 15 minutes late, I would start crying hysterically, thinking that he’d been in an accident. A few months later, he didn’t feel well and was diagnosed with end-stage cancer and passed away within a month.

October a few years back I suddenly started looking for places to live in my hometown and told my husband we should move home, something we’d talked about as a “some day” thing for a decade. November we moved home. January my dad ended up in the hospital and I was home to be able to spend his last few years with him, and he got to know his grandkids.

Suddenly had the gut feeling that we needed to move out of where we were renting, ASAP. We moved two months before our lease was up; planned not to break lease and we kept paying until the end.
One night not even a week after we’d moved… The roof collapsed during a typhoon. We would have been crushed, and all our belongings ruined if we hadn’t moved early.

Several years back now, I got it into my head out of nowhere that I need to be able to comfortably lift, carry and RUN with my kids in my arms, no matter how big they get. I started working on that, that same day.
A few weeks after I was confident in being able to do this *even on my high pain days*, we were in a situation where I literally needed to send off an emergency “pick us up at this particular spot” text, scoop my sleeping kids out of bed and run, about a mile from home around 2am.

I felt I wanted to become stronger and had been going to the gym and strength classes for a few months until I had pretty good condition. The day I needed to grab my stuff and leave out of a dangerous relationship I was able to do it on my own when the situation got out of hand. I remember thinking how I couldn’t have done it if I hadn’t been training for months. I pulled myself and my stuff literally and figuratively out of there.

Took an entry level ju jistu class with complete strangers in a Philadelphia park, on a whim, days before I needed it. Got pinned on my back, was about to get punched in the face (god knows what else). That position was the majority of the training that day and I had a great sparring partner.

In 2011 a creep crawled into my apt at 3am and tried to strangle me in my sleep (and I’m sure worse). Unfortunately for him, I was at the peak of training for my first marathon (near the 20-mile run mark), *very* actively working on trusting my own perceptions through meditation, AND immediately remembered a self-defense episode of Oprah I’d apparently tucked away as a teen in the 90s. He didn’t stand a chance. Best gift of my life was the chance to witness my own strength and instincts.

Before my mom was diagnosed with cancer I felt in my soul something was wrong. I would text her everyday to see if she was fine. I came home from states away to take her to a doctors appointment and was going to leave my dog with my roommates but had a feeling I should take her. My mom got diagnosed with stage 4 cancer and [passed away] a month later. My dog saved my life through it. Women always know.

The day of my mom’s gastric bypass surgery I begged her not to do it. I remember getting ready to leave for school early in the morning, my mom was prepared for her surgery and I cried and pleaded for her to not got through with it. She did it anyways. They knicked her liver causing her to go septic multiple times. She ultimately passed away from organ failure because of that surgery. I wish she would’ve listened to me.. I’ve been intuitive since I could remember..

20+ years ago I had been having the worst nightmares about my mom passing away for weeks. I kept them to myself because they were terrifying. I started making sure my mom hugged me and kissed me every time I came and went anywhere. I said I love you so many extra times and spent every second close to her. We went to dinner one night before Christmas and I made her give me the hug and kiss and we said I love you. And while we were at dinner, she had a heart arrest and never regained consciousness again.

I was on a one-way ticket out of the country and completely ready to go: cleaners scheduled for guests, bags packed, hotels booked, checked into my flight – everything. I just couldn’t ignore my gut, which screamed, “Don’t go yet! Do not go yet!” I trust my intuition, so I canceled it all. Two days later, I had major seizures and needed to see my local neurologist. Trust your gut especially when it overrides what you want. Inconvenient and disappointing? Yes. Potentially life-saving? Also yes.

I was super pregnant and woke up in a panic. It was sleeting the day before and frozen overnight. My husband was about to head to work and I literally burst into to tears and told him he needed to stay home. He said if he slipped going down the stairs outside our apartment, then he would. He slipped. We saw on the news later that morning that there had been a fatal three car pile up on his route to work due to black ice. It was right about where he would have been had he left. Trust your gut.

I was 34 week pregnant when the first time the movements were missing. I rushed to the hospital but everything was ok. After that every week there were missing movements and everytime we went to the hospital but again and again everything was normal. Week 39 day 6 5 am my water was broke, and that was the moment I knew I can give birth. We rushed to the hospital; my contractions were 3 minutes apart, but I couldn’t feel anything. At 4 p.m., I knew something was wrong because I didn’t feel the pain.
I asked for C section, and 4 pm I text my mom for the last time: “something is wrong I ask for a c section”, and I was crying and I was so afraid. The c section was succesful, unfortunately the umbilical cord wss too short and was around her neck. I couldnt give birth to her and if we were waiting more she would be dead. But now she is a happy 5 months old. Just because I was listening to my intuition.

Felt the vibes were off on a guy at a pizza store when I was crying. He was the employee and paid for my pizza as my card declined on a $1. It was on my college campus. He kept trying to get my number and meet me after classes. He wanted to take me on a motorist at midnight. I told him my fiance and mom wouldn’t like that. He said they didn’t have to know.
I left and didn’t go back to that shop. Later that week, a campus alert came up. A girl who had my exact demographics was found in a dumpster. Another one was found [attacked] but alive. I called the detective and she told me to always trust my gut and read the book The Gift Of Fear. The suspect drawing looked just like the pizza guy.
He apparently had an alibi, but I’m still not sure…

I’ve always had a strong intuition that I trust no matter how ridiculous or rude it makes me seem.
I was walking in the middle of the day when this man started approaching me and crossed the street towards me. I’m always cautious of strange men when I’m out alone, but got a really bad gut feeling about this guy. So when he got within 5 ft, I just started running and he chased after me yelling something. He followed me for a while from a distance so I called the police. They said they were looking for a man matching his exact description that had [attacked] another woman in the same area a few days ago.
Whenever I get a weird feeling about strangers, I always follow it. Be weird. Be rude. Stay Alive.

I randomly got the feeling I needed to start stretching again, specifically my arms. A few months later, I got arrested at a protest. Hands zip tied TIGHT behind my back.
I was still able to get my phone from my back pocket, send texts, call people and even live-stream most of the night to give updates on what was happening with my fellow protesters.
Afterwards, everyone was like how we’re able to do that with your hands zip tied?? And I was just like “shoulder mobility exercises”.

When I was 12 years old, I was getting this really horrific feeling around my father. I felt like he knew something was coming. He reminded me of like a wolf for like 2 months- it made my skin crawl. I asked my mom if I could stop visitation for a while – found out that he was planning to end my mother and stepfather, kidnap me and take me to Mexico so we could finally “be together” and then end us both on the beach. If I hadn’t skipped that weekend…
He called during a mental breakdown while on the way to our house to enact it. And also sent horrific detailed emails for weeks after being stopped. I always found it so funny that he called tbh like “hello! I am in the car about to commit crimes!” So we just left the house.

Last night I had an extremely vivid dream that my cats escaped and we couldn’t find 2 of them. Flash forward to tonight and as I came down the hallway to bed I noticed the FRONT DOOR WIDE OPEN. Immediately check for cats, all 4 safe in bed. I’ve been edge all day about the doors and the cats. And apparently for good reason. WHAT A PREMONITION! Your brain is a wild thing.

In the winter of 2019 I started getting what I can only describe as “disaster anxiety.” My son turned 1 and I returned to work, and I thought that probably explained my sudden overwhelming urge to stockpile.
I live in an earthquake zone, so I spent my time building out my emergency kit.
At the start of the pandemic there was a buying frenzy. Over the next few months there were shortages of shelf-stable foods, baby formula, baby wipes, infant Tylenol, toilet paper & n95 masks – all in my kit.

8 years ago my mom was in town to help me with my children when my son had surgery. Our second oldest son (20 at the time) was visiting. I went to change one of my twins diapers and had this weird sense I needed to check on my husband in the shower. Baby on hip I walked in just in time for him to pass out into my one free arm so close to hitting the tiles walls and floor! I was stuck under him with my baby in my other arm. I screamed and my mom and son came to help. Neither are usually here!!!

A few years ago I suddenly got the feeling that if I wanted the whole marriage and family thing, I should get serious about it, because I was running out of time. There was just this weird feeling of urgency. I got married in 2022, our first child was born in 2024. My dad passed away in 2025 and my mum this summer, one month before the birth of my second. Had I waited much longer, my parents might not have experienced any of it.

A month before my sons father tried to [hurt] me and steal my son, I couldn’t stop thinking about Chris Watts and what he did. It physically made me sick. He called out of work the next morning and put his hands on me while holding me hostage again. Listen to your gut, please.

Yes sometimes it can be a lot to deal with being a woman but reading these comments we are so magical I’ve learned always trust your gut. I was driving on the freeway once and i decided to take a random exit I don’t normally take and go the backroads and then get back on the freeway idk why I had this gut feeling like a hard rock stuck in my stomach. My instinct said get off the freeway now and take the back rounds for the next couple exits I’m like weird but ok.
My mom was like why did you get off the freeway I said idk I have this bad feeling. Didn’t think about it til I was at my location and saw there was a fatal car crash ten minutes later from where I got off the freeway. I thanked gods and my spiritual team bc yup that could have been us if I didn’t listen to my gut feelings.

I had the sudden urge to quit smoking March of 2019. I have chronic illness, weight gain due to meds, and asthma. My ex was really blase about wearing a mask and he brought covid into the house. It took me a month to kick it but I was never hospitalized. I also had a robotic hysterectomy in 2021. They discovered several tumors that had attached to my other organs. My blood pressure kept spiking. I had an amazing surgeon who kept me from stroking out on the table several times. I credit quitting smoking for saving my life at least twice at this point. I also credit that amazing surgeon. Instead of rushing she slowed everything down to keep me stable. A 2 hr surgery became 6 but I survived.

Both with my grandpa and my dad, years apart, I got a strong urge to visit (I lived far from both). My grandpa wasn’t sick, just old. My dad was sick but expected to live longer than they did. Both passed away within a month of me visiting. Sometimes your soul just knows.

Hours before the only rollover accident I’ve been in, hit black ice on a snowy mountain and rolled off a small cliff, I emptied everything from my truck because I remembered something really specific from the drivers education I gave myself. I was in all honors classes, full schedule, so I had to complete the course independently. The state verbiage was never to leave random objects in your car because they become “missiles“ in accidents and can end you.
I actually had filled the truck cab to bring up a ton of stuff from one house to the other that day. It was so full I couldn’t even see out the rear window because I was hauling possessions for a move. I had a dismantled painting easel, tons of sharp pieces of wood stacked, athletic equipment, glass. I was in a hurry to go to a concert, and I looked at everything, remembered the warning and took 20 minutes to unload everything even if I was going to be late. The rollover was four hours later.

I was having a bad day and could tell something else was coming. I normally take the interstate home but decided to take the slightly longer route on city roads. Stopped at a red light, then when I started driving again something felt off. I drove a block & then realized my tire was flat. The wall of the tire was torn apart, if I had been going 75 on the interstate it would have blown completely 8 could have put myself (4 months pregnant) and my 7 year old daughter into a dangerous situation.

The last instance I have had on gut feelings… our power knocked out and we were using candles. We decided to leave and go get dinner. I had this horrible feeling about fire. I triple checked our house before we left. As we were pulling out I saw the neighbors candles in a window and still this horrible feeling about fire— when we get back from dinner our neighborhood is completely blocked, and the first house in the neighborhood is fully engulfed in fire, spreading to the next house.

My kids went with their dad (noncustodial parent, limited visits) one weekend and I woke up out of sleep in the middle of the night just knowing they weren’t where they were supposed to be. Turns out, they were in sleeping bags on the basement floor of someone who was a random relative of his brand new girlfriend. It completely violated our custody agreement. Luckily that relationship has ended but to this day, I have no idea where they actually were or who they were around. They were unsupervised and scared and my heart knew.

I had a very sweet friend who was dating an army guy. The guy belongs to my community, speaks my language , so she was excited to introduce him to me assuming we will get along well. When i met him for the first time at our shared home (me and the friend).. I found him ‘ off ‘ for no apparent reason. He was charming, smart , polite , but still.. Something was not letting me warm up to him though i acted all friendly. During the course of next few months.. I observed her being all mushy and in love..calling him nicknames..sending parcels for him when he was stationed etc etc . He introduced her to his family and they even went on trips together. One day i just told her to not get too attached and always be prepared for the worst which was such a weird thing for me to say to her. Just after a few days ..i found out he had been cheating on her for months while was “stationed” and “unable to contact her due to long hours of work”. Breaking the news to her was damn hard but i decided to always listen to my gut from then onwards.

My male best friend/roommate at the time worked at a bar. Some nights I went to keep him company but one night that I chose to stay home, I woke up between 3-4 am heart racing with this impending sense of doom and started calling him over and over. My mom and I used to live an hour away from each other because I was in school. One time, I got this random pang of fear and worry in my chest that my mom was sick or hurt. I shrugged it off and shrugged it off until we got to see each other again a week or so later. I live in an area known for severe storms and tornado warnings, but the issues rarely happen. One morning I woke up with a wild feeling that that night’s storm was going to be different. I spent the day looking up ways to prepare for tornados in apartments and sending to my family just in case. I watched the radar like a crazy person all night, saw a warning pop up, and called my sister to get in her safe space i had told her to prepare. It was on us no more than 30 seconds later. Oh I’ve also had the feeling “get better car insurance” I ignored the feeling. I have a happy one! I was 20, in college, and had just started dating a new guy after getting out of a long-term, not very healthy relationship. I was really only looking for a fling, but for some reason I could clearly visualize raising children with this guy. Since marriage and kids were not even on my radar at this point, my response to this was pretty much “what the hell, brain?”
Fifteen years later, I’m married to him and we’re raising two kids together. Apparently my brain knew what the hell it was talking about.

Two stand out events in my life:
Had a gut feeling my brother was borderline alcoholic and on the verge of getting a DWI because I was pretty sure he was driving drunk sometimes. I told my mom about it after she was on vacation with my dad and there was a bad incident at home. He ended up getting a DWI about 4 months later. He is actually now in jail for his second and third DWI within 10 years. Thankfully he is sober now – he went through rehab prior to sentencing.
Another was just in December. My husband was having issues after a colonoscopy. I couldn’t tell exactly what was going on but knew it wasn’t good and kept pushing him to go to the doctors. He refused even though he was in too much pain to work. After about a week I finally had to call an ambulance because he passed out after having a shaking fit from the pain. I told the ER doctor everything and four hours later he tried sending my husband home because his results were fine. I told him absolutely not and that he must admit him to see a GI doctor. They admitted him but the doctor wasn’t a specialist and again, tried sending him home. I said absolutely not. Through a series of really serendipitous events, a GI doctor arrived 30 minutes later, right as my husband was being discharged because he wanted to go home (I tried fighting him on it). Turns out my husband had C Diff caused by antibiotics and the colonoscopy. If he waited any longer to see a GI doctor he would have needed surgery. He is still having complications from this.

Mine was so very specific. I had dreamt he went to a bar (one we would go to together/that actually existed) and was talking to a girl named Joana. They were dancing to a merengue song together. In the dream, it was like I was in the corner of the ceiling watching down.
When I woke up I was like, that was weird. He doesnt even dance to that! But I checked his instagram anyway. I checked his following/followers for a girl named Joana and didnt find anything, so I shrugged it off.
It was still bothering me later. I went back on instagram and looked at the page of the bar that we would go to and watched their story. Low and behold, that exact night, there he was on their story, dancing to the EXACT merengue song in my dream, with some random lady.
No, he did not tell me he was going out that night.

I was walking late at night and came onto a street and saw a man. Every instinct in me said to run (which was unusual) so I ran. He started chasing me.
Another time I was driving behind a car towing a vehicle (flat bed the car sits on chained underneath) and we were at a light. When the light turned green every instinct told me not to move my car so I didn’t. I got honked at (live in NY) but by the time the tow truck hit the middle of the intersection the car fell off the back onto the street where I would have been.
There have definitely been other times but these were the biggest in me learning to trust myself.

Knew this girl in high school who was the new girl in yr 9 I think. Everyone loved her and wanted to be her friend but something just felt really off to me about her like the feeling you get when you look at a snake.
So I didnt really get close with her for that reason, couple of years later she turned out to be a backstabber who would try to get her friends boyfriends to cheat on them with her and always gave 2 face compliments to girls to try and tear their self esteem down.

Not me, but my mom got this bug that I HAD to buy my first home THIS YEAR. She motivated me & was insistent that it had to be quiet/ peaceful. I thought I’d be fine in my tiny apt for years to come. We closed a few weeks ago, gave notice for my lease 7 days ago & 5 days ago someone moved in above me that is so loud/inconsiderate 24/7 that they’re actually putting me into literal psychosis. I would’ve been back in the psych ward in a month if it weren’t for her.

Before getting hit by a car that ran a red light through an intersection and totalled my car, I picked up my son and buckled him in like I usually would but on this day, for no reason what so ever, I was paying extra close attention to how I was strapping him in, making sure everything was in the right place and make sure the car seat itself was secure. Both of us were okay, but I’ll always remember how diligent I was when buckling him that day.

This is not about accidents but few weeks ago I started to suddenly think about my brother & her girlfriend and the fact that they don’t have a baby. I remember it came out of nowhere because I don’t think of my brother like that, let alone his personal relationships. I pushed it aside and thought that some people don’t rush it. One week later I get news that his girlfriend is indeed pregnant.

My boyfriend moved in with me. I got a weird feeling on my way home and practically ran when I got off the train. I arrived to find him cheating on me.
