Well the good news for any and all fans of High School Musical is that there appear to be plans to bring a part 4 to the screen. As you might have guessed though there are going to be some changes since like everything else there’s the idea that the original cast is simply getting too old at this point to do anything but reunion show and in the spirit of the movies it’s going to have to stay high school in order to really be what people want to see. In the era of people that are in their 20s and 30s playing the roles of high school kids it’s starting to become less believable and therefore less desirable. So expect to see a new cast but don’t really expect that the story is going to change all that much since, well, high school politics haven’t really changed all the much throughout the years.
The new cast will be following the old stereotypes.
There might be a few role reversals here and there as to who’s the big man or woman on campus but for the most part the stereotypes that we’ve seen since The Breakfast Club and before that are going to be in full swing and will be able to influence how the movie goes as usual. It would appear that the producers are going back to the well once again and attempting to change it up just enough to cash in on another high school experience with a new bunch of actors that might be able to bring something that people haven’t seen before or haven’t seen in a while at the very least. Expectations for a completely new plot shouldn’t be too high since no matter how different the story is it’s still taking place in high school, which means that there are a lot of stories to tell, but only so many characters to tell them.
None of the original characters have signed up yet.
It’s possible that some of the originals could come back if only for cameos or to make an appearance in some way that contributes to the movie, but it’s not bound to happen just yet since none of them have been tapped for their original roles. Right now it seems as though fans might riot if they saw the original actors come back as anything but their characters since that seems to be how this movie will play out. It’s understandable since those that came first would be kind of expected to be the same people and not come in as different characters that were simply thrown in for nostalgia. It could even be that a plot point might exist that calls for the original actors to show up once or twice and make their presence known. But as of now there’s nothing set in stone and the movie is bound to center around the new cast members without dredging up anything but memories of the old cast.
Right now Disney is searching for unknowns to fill the roles.
It would seem that Disney wants to fill the roles with people that don’t have a high level of fame following after them and in some ways it’s hard to blame them for this for a couple of reasons. One is that those with more fame under their belt tend to want more money for their services and know they can get it. If said people were the desired actors that were chosen for the role they would likely pull down an exorbitant salary that would need to be paid, or they might walk. The second reason has a lot to do with the first since Disney obviously knows that they can pay an unknown a small fraction of the price that a big star would pull down as a salary and get them to put on a great performance. It’s kind of underhanded but it’s also a way of making people pay their dues so to speak when stepping in front of the camera. People can have all the talent in the world but if they don’t have the experience then they tend to not be worth as much in the eyes of the corporation.
So far the idea of a new High School Musical movie is in full swing but the production hasn’t started yet as they don’t seem to have found the actors and there’s no telling just what the plot is going to be at this point. One thing is for certain, it’s no doubt going to be family-friendly and something that will be entirely based off of stereotypes of high school that many people might argue don’t exist but in fact are still very much a part of the adolescent hierarchy. It’s a way of life, it happens.
