Who Will Paul Bettany Play in Han Solo Spinoff Film?

Recently, it has been announced that Paul Bettany will be one of the cast members of the spin-off movie centered around Han Solo, which still remains unnamed at this point in time. Initially, Michael K. Williams had been cast for the same role, but he was unable to make it onto the set for the reshoot because of scheduling conflicts, which is why Paul Bettany has been cast in his place.

For those who are unfamiliar with the name, Paul Bettany has had numerous roles in a surprising range of movies and TV shows. For example, he played a gangster in 2000’s Gangster No. 1 and Geoffrey Chaucer in 2001’s A Knight’s Tale. Furthermore, he played not just J.A.R.V.I.S. but also Vision in the Marvel Cinematic Universe movies, which might be his most recognizable roles to more recent movie-goers. Combined with some of the awards and accolades that he has received over the course of his career, this experience means that it is not unreasonable to expect a solid performance from Paul Bettany, whatever it might be.

Who Will Paul Bettany Be Playing?

At this point, it is not known what character Paul Bettany will be playing. Furthermore, there is not enough information to make a good guess about his role, though there is still some room for speculation.

For starters, Paul Bettany won’t be a character who is known to Star Wars fans. This is unsurprising because there are not a lot of characters in the Han Solo movie that are known to Star Wars fans. It is known that Han Solo, Chewbacca, and Lando Calrissian will be played by Alden Ehrenreich, Joonas Suotamo, and Donald Glover, but otherwise, characters such as Woody Harrelson’s Beckett, Emilia Clarke’s Kira, and whoever Thandie Newton and Phoebe Waller-Bridge will be playing are newcomers to the franchise.

Furthermore, it should be noted that Michael K. Williams’s version of the character needed some CGI work, which suggests that he was one of the remarkably human-looking aliens that populate Star Wars and other sci-fi settings. In contrast, Paul Bettany’s version of the same character will be plain old human, which may or may not have to do with CGI work being both expensive and time-consuming. Regardless, the fact that the character could be changed with such ease suggests that he was not an established part of the Star Wars setting.

Otherwise, there is not much more that can be speculated upon. It could be mentioned that Paul Bettany’s role will be a supporting role, but that is to be expected when he is neither Han Solo nor Chewbacca in a Han Solo movie. Regardless, people who are interested in learning more will just have to wait until more information comes out about the Han Solo movie, which should start happening more and more not so far into the future. After all, while the Han Solo movie has run into some complications over the course of its production, it is scheduled for release in May of 2018, which is not a lot of time to wait for Star Wars fans.
