Why Hailee Steinfeld Would Make an Awesome Kate Bishop

According to Thomas Bacon of ScreenRant it almost sounds as though Hailee Steinfeld could be up for the role of Kate Bishop, the young woman that was trained by none other than Clint Barton to take up the role of Hawkeye, or something close to it, in the Marvel universe. There are definite arguments as to why this would be extremely beneficial for the show and for Hailee since she’s been on kind of a tear throughout recent years when it comes to showing up where viewers can see her. So far it’s been well established that she has what it takes to be an action star, or at least star in an action movie, but now it would seem that her skills might be put to the test in a bigger way since becoming a superhero would require a little more and it could be a great test of what she can really do. There’s no doubt that she can deliver, but it’s still interesting to think that she might be one of the best prospects the MCU has seen in a while, even if it’s on TV and not on the big screen.

Ben Pearson from SlashFilm seems to agree that she’d be great working alongside Jeremy Renner, who’s been a great Hawkeye since his inclusion a while back in the first Thor movie and then the Avengers. After all, the moment that he was activated and went for a bow instead of a gun, a lot of people simply knew that Clint Barton was making his presence known. Once he was introduced into the Avengers it was obvious that he was a little outmatched, but his tenacity and his ability to never miss his shot as well as be an integral part of the team made Hawkeye a standout that a lot of people came to respect in a big way. While it’s not really known yet how Kate Bishop is going to be introduced into the fold it’s already an expectation that Hailee will be one of the best picks that the MCU has made in a long time. After all a master marksman/assassin has been one of the staples of the Avengers for a while despite the fact that in the comics and in the movies they’ve been pretty adamant about not killing. Thankfully that mandate has loosened over the years since back in the day Hawkeye got in big trouble for killing an enemy at one point.

Kate Bishop is a character that was born into a good life that was eventually changed and ripped apart when she lost her mother and was then assaulted and, as the tale goes, decided to turn her life around and take control by putting herself through an intense training regimen that saw her learn a host of skills such as archery, fencing, and various other types of combat. Eventually she met Cassie Lang, the daughter of Scott Lang, who recommended her for the Young Avengers initiative after seeing what she could do. From that point on it was only a matter of time until she was introduced to Clint Barton, who gave her his blessing and helped to train her further until she became yet another weapon in the Avengers’ arsenal. Hearing this kind of back story it’s easy to think that while she does have a very tragic tale to tell, she’s not quite as experienced or as tortured as some of the other members have been in the past, since a lot of them have had experiences in their lives that have been anything but pleasant.

But what’s even more interesting to think about is how the MCU will introduce Kate Bishop post-Endgame since the Avengers is bound to become a very different group now that Captain America, Black Widow, Thor, and Iron Man are all gone. As far as the cinematic universe goes that’s all but one of the founding members that brought the Avengers together on the big screen, though there’s no idea just where the Hulk is going to go from here, at least not that anyone has said as of yet. The Young Avengers initiative is a manner of rebuilding and recruiting that is meant to not only bolster the ranks, but to invite the next generation of heroes that will take up the mantle from those that are still active one day. It’s hard to say whether or not Hailee would stick around long enough to see if this idea might one day become a movie, but it’s interesting enough to think about since she’s got the skill, the grit, and the ability to star in the MCU if she really wants to. Bringing in Kate Bishop is a start, but you can imagine that we’ll be seeing more Avengers as time rolls on.
