Whatever Happened to the Cast of the Movie “Airborne?”

Airborne is most definitely a 90s movie and not just because it was released in 1993. It has more to do with the fact that it not only introduced a lot of cast members that were either popular or would go onto become popular, but because it was the story of overcoming personal adversity in a way that helped shape a person’s life and change their perspective. The 90’s were kind of a tumultuous time, and change was rampant in almost every aspect of life, including the movies. While the film didn’t get a whole lot of attention moving forward from its release it did enough to introduce a lot of new and continuing actors in a way that would allow them to be remembered for their roles and for the simple fact that they were still around.

The story focuses on one individual, Mitchell, who moves from his surfing community in California to Cincinnati, Ohio, where the only wave that might occur is during a sporting event. As he tries to assimilate to his new surroundings he finds it increasingly difficult since his laid back style doesn’t seem to mesh with that of his current surroundings. Despite all that however he soon finds a way to fit in as he puts the skills he has to use in another way.

So let’s see what happened to the cast.

Jacob Vargas – Snake

Vargas has had a long history before and after this film. He was even included in the cult classic Ernest Goes to Camp with Jim Varney. Since this film though his career took off and he’s been cast in movies such as Next Friday, Traffic, Are We Done Yet?, Death Race, and many, many more. He’s usually one of the wise-talking characters that’s either tough or just quirky that shows up in a movie and adds to it with his charisma and overall charm.

Jack Black – Augie

If you don’t know who Jack Black is then you haven’t been watching movie for the past decade or more. Black has been front and center when it comes to Hollywood and has starred in some of the most outrageous comedies and acted as a supporting character for many others. Kung Fu Panda has been one of his big claims to fame, as has Tropic Thunder, Tenacious D and the Pick of Destiny, Shallow Hal, and a long, long list of movies that have felt his presence. He’s been one of the funniest guys in Hollywood for some time and films like School of Rock and Nacho Libre have allowed him to explore his crazier side. Lately he’s been calming down a bit as one of his latest roles in Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, would indicate.

Edie McClurg – Aunt Irene

Edie’s been around for quite some time really, and you likely will remember her from Planes, Trains, and Automobiles, and even Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, but she has appeared in a lot following this movie as well. She’s done a few voice roles such as in A Bug’s Life, but she’s also done many live action roles that still paint her as the motherly type that can be quaint and chipper no matter what the situation is.

Chris Conrad – Jack

Chris Conrad has continued to act after the film and has kept a stable career for the most part. For the single moment he’s in the movie you might recognize him in Mortal Kombat: Annihilation, but it’s a quick moment since his character dies before the movie really gets going. He’s been in a lot of short films and documentaries throughout his career but he’s also managed to find his way into TV roles as well.

Brittney Powell – Nikki

After the film she continued to act but seemed to finally bow out in 2013. There’s no record of her having done anything since that point, not in TV or in film. She seemed to have a promising career ahead of her but kind of just fell away at one point or another.

Seth Green-Wiley

Seth has almost always played a rather quirky character and that didn’t change after this movie. If you look at some of the things he’s done, such as Can’t Hardly Wait, the Austin Powers movies, his TV appearance on My Name is Earl, and many others you’ll note that he’s a very funny guy but he does have kind of a frantic energy to him that simply demands that he play certain roles. When he is calm and composed it’s usually for TV interviews, while every time he performs he ramps up the energy to 11 and just does his own thing.

Shane McDermott – Mitchell Goosen

It would seem that Shane hasn’t done a lot of acting since the 90s. If there are any credits to his name following that decade then they have yet to be recorded. He did go on to guest star in an episode of Law & Order and had a role in All My Children for a while.  As of right now, he’s a real estate agent.

So some of them struck it big after the movie, but some of them just kind of faded off.
