Wesley Snipes Could Still Be In the Blade Reboot

It’s not going to be until around 2022 that we’ll finally get to see Blade enter the MCU according to Christian Bone of We Got This Covered, but it’s easy to imagine we’re going to be talking about it all the way up to the premiere. What would be great to find out though is if the rumor of Wesley Snipes playing the main villain is really a plan that’s on the table or if we’re being given a false lead to follow. A lot of fans would likely fall on that little tidbit and start making all kinds of wild claims based on nothing more than conjecture since it’s a desire to see Snipes in the movie that he helped to make famous in the first place as the daywalker. At this time it’s already known that Snipes has no ill feelings towards Mahershala Ali, who was selected to take up the role of iconic slayer a short while ago, but he’s been pushing so hard to get back into the swing of things that it seems as though putting him in the movie is just good for business and giving the fans what they need, not just what they want.

Snipes is after all the guy that made Blade popular in the first place. Despite the fact that Blade had existed in the annals of Marvel before the big screen he was usually regarded as something of an auxiliary character, someone that was great to use when he was really needed, but not a major player that got a whole lot of attention. Throughout the years he’s had a few run-ins with a few notable characters in the Marvel universe, such as Spider-Man and even Wolverine, not to mention Morbius, the living vampire. He’s usually been seen as more an occult character, someone that operates in the shadows and doesn’t really expose himself all that much. Unlike many other heroes he never wore a mask and didn’t really announce his presence until it was absolutely necessary. In a way he was almost like a vampiric Punisher-type character, only much meaner and much stronger, and with a very select type of target. On top of that, Blade didn’t usually get along with a lot of other heroes since his attitude as a lone wolf has usually kept him at a distance.

But to see him on the big screen for the first time was absolutely great since it didn’t even need a recognizable villain, as it was great enough to see Blade just hacking apart vampires left and right in an orgy of violence that didn’t really end on a high note with the last fight, but was still entertaining. Bringing Blade into Phase 5 is going to be interesting since now we’re aware of the other heroes in the MCU that also operate in New York, and one has to think that they’re going to start being aware of each other since despite the size of the city the impact that each hero has tends to have quite the reach and can be heard throughout the Big Apple very easily. Dr. Strange, Spider-Man, the remaining Avengers, and several other heroes, including the Fantastic Four if they’re around at that time, would be possible run-ins that he might see. Even the X-Men could be come a factor, as could Morbius, as it’s been seen that he’s slated to have his own movie eventually.

But having Snipes in the reboot does seem important since it would be kind of nice to see what else he can do within this scope and if he can play a convincing villain. He’s been the bad guy before of course, in New Jack City and Demolition Man where he was actually pretty entertaining on both counts. So yes, in Demolition Man he was a bit over the top, but he also played a villain that was absolutely evil and stuck in a time and place where the people no longer knew how to handle his kind of chaos. Snipes has proven himself more than a few times during the length of his career and has shown that he can handle either side of the line that separates heroes and villains, meaning that he can turn good or bad as he needs to. The rumor that he might actually play another version of Dracula in this movie would be great if it was found to be real, as it would mean that he gets to once again be a powerful and extremely important individual. Whether he’d be able to walk in the sunlight like Drake in Blade III would be interesting to figure out, but all in all it would just be great to see him come back to the movie that he helped to make great back in the day.
