Wedding planning can be hectic, stressful work, so it makes sense why some would offload some of the responsibilities to a professional. After all, these people have experience, contacts, and no doubt many good ideas. But they are also humans, and can very quickly drop you as a client if you have the wrong attitude.
A wedding planner documented her story on TikTok and the video quickly went viral. She described a bride-to-be looking for a wedding photographer with a specific style. So she was a bit surprised when the bride called her sometime later, furious about her choice. It turns out, the photographer’s second shooter was his husband.
Some people allow their personal prejudices to run so deep that they will self-sabotage important life events

A wedding planner told her TikTok followers about a time she had to ‘fire’ a bride
“I just fired a bride. I feel bad because we’re six months away from her wedding, but I don’t feel bad enough to keep working with her. As a lot of you know, I’m a virtual wedding planner and I was helping a bride plan her wedding on the outskirts of Atlanta. She procrastinated on finding a photographer and then said “Hey, can you help me find a photographer because I’m very overwhelmed.” And I said “Sure.””

At first, it was a normal client, a bride-to-be who was looking for a photographer that would fit her planned wedding
“She had a very specific aesthetic that she was looking for. She wasn’t looking for like, bright and airy or dark and moody. She was looking for like, true color documentary style, somewhere in between. She wanted two shooters, full-day coverage, within her budget, etc.”
I do so much research, I reached out to a bunch of Atlanta photographers that kind of fit her aesthetic. I asked them for their availability, I get pricing info, etc. And I find her the perfect photographer. And she said “Thanks, I’ll call them and make sure it’s a good fit.” And I said “Sounds great.””

So the planner scoured the area for compatible professionals and found one that was a great match
“She calls me today pretty [angry] and says we need to find a different photographer. And I’m like “Why, what happened?” She’s like “Well, his portfolio is great, but his second shooter is his husband.” And I was like “Oh, okay. Were they like, rude to you?” She was like “No, they’re perfectly nice. But his second shooter is his husband.” And I’m over here dumb as hell, no thoughts going on up here. And I’m like “I don’t understand the problem.””

Unfortunately, the bride’s homophobia led to a tirade against the planner, causing to her be dropped as a client
“She’s like “Well, they’re gay. And that goes against our values, and it’s not appropriate for a family event, and I can’t believe that you would feel comfortable suggesting them to me.” I’m like, first of all, I didn’t know they were gay. I don’t make it a habit to call photographers and be like “Hey, are you by chance sleeping with your second shooter?” Two, if you spent any time researching me or spent two seconds on my TikTok you would know that I would never see that as a problem.
So she was like “You need to find me more photographers.” And I was like “No, honey, you need to find another planner.” So I guess let this be a warning to anyone thinking of hiring me. I’m not a homophobe. And I don’t want my clients to be.”
