Comparing the size of movie monsters is kind of interesting since you get a real scale of how big they actually are and how small some of them are when standing next to each other. One that is really pertinent at the moment would be King Kong and his massive size difference in relation to Godzilla, who is absolutely huge. In the upcoming movie that will pit the two against one another it can only be hoped that Kong will have matured within the span of time that is being given between Skull Island and the present day. Otherwise it wouldn’t be much of a fight at all like some are already claiming. Obviously Godzilla has a lot on Kong as he has a humongous tail, radioactive breath that can be used from a distance, and just the massive size difference between them.
Some of these however I wasn’t aware were quite so huge. The behemoth from The Mist wasn’t much of a surprise since in the movie you can get a pretty good idea when the shot pulls out and you can see the car far below the creature as it’s moving by. The sand worm from Dune is also notoriously well known for being absolutely massive. But creatures like Mothra and even the original King Kong seem so tiny now in comparison to the bigger monsters that have come along since. Clover from Cloverfield is, I think, one of the lesser known and possibly less-considered monsters on this list since it’s one of the newest in theory and also one of those that people don’t seem to take to as much.
Also, I knew the xenomorph queen was big, but I didn’t know she was that big. She makes the Predator look like a child in the movies and in this comparison. Humans are kind of out of luck since by the third creature in we’re on average smaller and far less naturally-equipped to deal with any of them. We don’t have claws, sharpened teeth, tusks, or any other sort of bodily defense that can stack up to any of them. In fact the only time you see a human figure on this list is for scale, to remind us just how small we are. I do wonder though where the current adaptation of Smaug from The Hobbit would fit in, since he seems a great deal bigger than the representation give on this list.
Seeing the graboid next to the rancor was funny since it seems like the rancor could just pick the big worm up and rip it in half if it wanted. But the mumakil from the Lord of the Rings is absolutely massive, as was the StayPuft Marshmallow man. But I will fully admit I did not expect that the largest creature on this list would be the giant space slug that was shown in The Empire Strikes Back. I knew the thing was big but I had no idea it was able to rank the top spot on this list. Now I’m wondering where the Sarlaac would fit in since it’s at least 100 meters in length and its girth is kind of unknown. For that matter where would a krayt dragon land on the list? It’s been written that the dragons actually eat Sarlaac’s by digging them out of their holes. Obviously a krayt dragon wouldn’t be on this list since it’s never been filmed, but the Sarlaac should have made it at least.
