This is Us Season 2 Premiere: What We Learned

Last season, This Is Us virtually took television fans by storm. In reality, the show that was created turned out to be anything but just another television show. Instead, the series gained a dedicated fan following, almost from the very beginning. Many people could speculate about the various reasons for the show’s overall success, but if you ask most of the people that routinely follow the show, they will tell you it’s because they can truly identify with the characters. In fact, one of the hallmark reasons for the show’s overwhelming success during its initial season is because the showrunners weren’t afraid to tackle some exceptionally difficult topics, nor did they have a tendency to stray from those topics when things started to get a little uncomfortable.

Let’s face it, life itself is not always comfortable, not by a long shot. Sometimes people have to make decisions and these decisions are not always easy. A lot of the time, real people are dealing with complicated issues and the equally complicated feelings that go with them. The fact that these characters routinely experience the same thing only makes them more genuine to the audience. That, in turn, makes people more likely to tune in. Gone are the days when people only want to watch something that whisks them away to something completely beyond any shred of reality. Instead, they want to see the struggles of characters that seem more real, all while being required to deal with real-life issues.

Now that the basis for season one’s success has been reiterated, it’s time to focus on season two. First and foremost, it’s important that you know this season will be about growing. Yes, that means that the characters, especially Randall, Kevin and Kate, will be growing in their relationships with each other and with other people, but it mainly means that they will be growing as individuals. This alone will allow them to expand on their relationships with others, as they find their footing and truly start to discover who they really are at their deepest cores. Rest assured, this will not always be easy. In reality, growth is rarely easy. Instead, it usually involves a certain amount of pain, and that fact will be reflected throughout season two of the show.

All in all, the second season of This Is Us is bound to present some hefty challenges for its main characters, just like it did during season one. The fact that the audience has the opportunity to stay tuned and see how these characters live and grow in the face of those challenges is easily one of the show’s biggest advantages. If you are looking for something that has some depth to it, this is a series that can easily fit the bill during practically any episode.

Obviously, the characters will continue to evolve throughout the second season. Who knows exactly what will happen as the season progresses, but the initial season two episode promises to set the pace for an exciting, and sometimes painful, new season.
