Watch These Sporting Events for Free with an Antenna

watch sports on tv

Cable cutters all over the United States have grown to love antennas as a necessary piece of their cable cutting setup. That is because antennas, far past the days of rabbit ears on top of box TVs, still pick up some of the best content a cable package can offer. Channels like ABC, NBC, FOX, and CBS can be watched on your TV with an antenna. That means you can watch plenty of live sports, TV shows, and keep up with local and national news just by getting an antenna.

In May, there are plenty of different events you can watch on an antenna. Below are some details on which ones and how you can tune in!

French Open

The second Grand Slam event of the year, the French Open, is always an exciting tournament. For several years, it felt like there was only one men’s champion as Rafael Nadal won the tournament in 9 out of 10 tries. But, on both the Men and Women’s side it is anyone’s tournament and you can watch some of the action with an antenna.

NBC will be broadcasting a solid chunk of the tournament for both men’s and women’s matches. At the moment, the majority of the NBC coverage in the early rounds seems to be mostly weekend play. But, NBC does own the full broadcast of the Men’s and Women’s finals. So, you can use the antenna during the highly anticipated final matches and find out who will walk away with a Grand Slam title. NBA Playoffs

Basketball fans love the two month experience that is the NBA Playoffs. It might feel like it goes on forever for casual fans, but any real fan loves the seemingly nonstop action and highlights the playoffs produce. ABC owns the broadcast rights to some of the games throughout the postseason, so you can definitely watch the playoffs with an antenna right on your big screen. Some of the best players in the game are facing off night in and night out, so you have to make sure you don’t miss much.

Indy 500

Considered one of the premier races of the year, the Indianapolis 500 is always an exciting event. There are 33 drivers in this year’s race and six previous winners will be competing including last year’s winner Juan Pablo Montoya, Scott Dixon, Buddy Lazier, Helio Castroneves, Tony Kanaan, and Ryan Hunter-Reay. Simon Pagenaud could be considered an early favorite since has been on fire lately, winning the three previous Verizon IndyCar races.

The entire race will be broadcast on ABC, including a solid amount of pre-race analysis. You can easily tune in with your antenna to watch the Indy 500 from start to finish. And, if you have never watched a race with your antenna be ready to be amazed. The picture that comes through is crystal clear and makes the experience that much better. Unfortunately, if you live in Indianapolis you will get hit with a blackout for the race and it will ultimately be broadcasted on a tape delay.

Champions League Final

The final match of the UEFA Champions League has two of the best club soccer teams in the world face off in hopes of claiming the title. Barcelona was the second straight Spanish team to win the title when it defeated Juventus last season. Ultimately, the winner of the match can claim to be arguably the best club in Europe for the year. Nearly all of the top players in the world are in the Champions League and the final game always produces great highlights.

On Saturday, May 28th at 2:45 p.m. ET, Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid will face off for the in the final match. The match will be broadcast on FOX and can be cleanly picked up with your antenna. Just like the other events, the match will be incredible to watch in uncompressed HD.

As you can see, there are some great events coming up. Comment if you have any questions about how to watch them with an antenna!
