We have seen the ever popular rise of reboots and remakes of some of our favorite television series and films in the past few years, bringing back all of the nostalgia for millions of fans and audiences everywhere. This remaking trend doesn’t seem to be slowing down anytime soon, which, of course, the majority of the population is loving; In fact, we have just heard the news of another reboot that is in the works to be released for the next generation, entitled “What Men Want”. You guessed it; This reboot is taking a gender spin on the ever popular 2000 rom-com, “What Women Want”, which then starred Mel Gibson and Helen Hunt in the main roles. We know that we’ve got you sitting on the edge of your seat, so in this article, we are going to give you all the details that we know so far about this remake, and what similarities you will be sure to see. Let’s get started.
The Obvious Gender Swap
It is pretty clear, based on the title of the remake alone, that there is going to be a significant gender swap when it comes to the storyline of the new film. In the original version of “What Women Want”, the plot consisted of Mel Gibson’s character suddenly being able to hear the thoughts of other women after a freak accident gave him the ‘power’. That being said, in the new version, these roles are going to be reversed, and Taraji P. Henson’s character in “What Men Want” will be able to read the minds of her male colleagues and other men as well, giving her the upper hand in her work place. It is a crazy story line to begin with, but we are still excited to see how they make the plot more current almost twenty years after the initial release.
What We Know So Far
As of now, “What Men Want” is set to star Taraji P. Henson (as we mentioned before), along with comedic genius Tracy Morgan. The film is also set to have Aldis Hodge in the cast mix as well, and it is reported that Adam Shankman is planning to direct the film. The film is going to be brought to you by Paramount Players, which is a new division of the original Paramount production company that was formed in June of 2017. Although there aren’t many other details regarding the cast and production, we are sure it is going to be an amazing reboot that will bring back all of the feels for rom-com fans everywhere.
