When Tosh.0 came along a lot of folks hopped on the bandwagon without a second thought since it was something new and engaging and spoke their language using short clips from YouTube that were fun and entertaining. To others he was something of an oddity since the show was fairly familiar to a few others that have come on the air throughout the years but was still just different enough that it seemed like something to either ignore or avoid. Since its inception though Tosh.0 has been steadily growing in its popularity and has continued to be a show that people talk about, discuss, and have sought to elevate in a way that is indicative of just how much meaning it’s been given in their lives. There have been a lot of shows that have been granted this kind of importance throughout the history of TV, but this is one of those that has truly embraced and been embraced in turn by the technological age that it’s sprung up in and as such it’s still in the midst of its three year renewal by Comedy Central. At this point we’d bet that in 2020 it’ll be up for another three years.
Whatever it is about the show just seemed to appeal to people eleven seasons ago when it came up and for some reason they turned to this program as something that was the next best thing and decided that it was in fact the next hit on TV to be recognized. Now whether or not it’s won awards, Daniel Tosh has been nominated for a few, isn’t really the point since the show has covered enough clips in enough different ways to keep the audience entertained, and they’ve added in various other skits that have bolstered the show and made it more interesting. To some of us, myself included, there was no doubt that it would be gone after a couple of seasons and forgotten not long after. Imagine our surprise then to learn that Tosh.0 is still going strong eleven seasons later and shows no visible signs of going away anytime soon.
Originally the show was only scheduled for ten seasons, but it would appear that people weren’t willing to let go of it yet and, whether or not that was a factor, the show is still around and still going to the delight of many fans. This is and isn’t too hard to figure out really since when people sink their teeth into something they tend to like it until it becomes stale, over-used, or just too crazy to consider following any longer. Many upon many shows have had this issue in the past as they’ve pulled away from their original programming in an effort to keep up with younger and more vibrant shows that are coming out all the time. Thanks to low production costs and the interaction with the audience however Tosh.0 has managed to keep a lot of interest and at the same time generated even more hype for the show over the years by keeping it fresh and updating the clips that are depicted in every show. Being able to use old viral clips is definitely a fun way to go about creating a show that people want to watch since these aren’t just any old clips that anyone can see on YouTube, but carefully-selected clips that were life-changing to the people they happened to.
Depending on how you feel about the show, you might not even watch it or just catch a bit of it now and again, it doesn’t really matter since throughout its lifetime there have been plenty of people that have served a detractors and those that have even gone so far as to state that it has little to no worth. But seeing as how Daniel Tosh is a veteran stand-up comic you’ve got to agree that he knows how to handle a crowd and he knows how to give them what they want. Simply being a comedian he knows how to warm a room and gauge how they’re feeling based on their reaction, so for the past decade he’s been able to keep the show running and make people believe in what he’s doing through use of his comedic talents as well as the clips that he uses so frequently. Plus, the good part about using viral clips is that they’re never in short supply since people are always making videos and putting them online in the hopes that others are going to watch.
So really if you want the reason that Tosh.0 is still around it’s not so much that the show is that great or the host is that special, it’s that he knows how to read the people and give them what they want, and the show doesn’t really suffer in terms of production costs. They get by on a very easy budget, comparatively, and rely mostly on Daniel Tosh’s ability to get the crowd worked up. And obviously it’s been working and should continue to.
