There are a lot of iconic songs out there and Stranglehold belongs among their numbers. Released in 1975 by Ted Nugent the song doesn’t even feature him on lyrics to begin with. The guy singing for the majority of the song was Derek St. Holmes. Nugent even admitted that the guy that helped to co-write the song didn’t get a credit for the work he did. That seems awfully sketchy but considering it’s so far in the past now it’s something you can cluck your tongue at but do nothing else about. The song itself isn’t all that powerful but it has a definite pull on the senses that makes a person almost want to slow down and really feel the burn in that moment for some reason you can’t really define.
Maybe it’s because this song tends to get used in a lot of slow motion moments.
5. Pain and Gain
Daniel Lugo is, for lack of a better word, a moron. He has ingenuity, he has some smarts, but overall he’s kind of a dud when it comes to being a genius. He might have come up with what seemed like an elaborate plan to get rich quick and become an influential part of society, but too many loose ends and not enough well-thought out exit strategies turned out to be his undoing.
4. Dazed and Confused
This coming of age movie is a must-watch for anyone that needs to remind themselves what school was like way back when and what it’s really like to grow up almost overnight. The whole premise is centered around just a few individuals and the goings on of school and friendships and just what is deemed as supremely important in the minds of teenagers.
3. Beer for My Horses
This movie seems like a “wrong place at the wrong time” kind of flick in some regards. Rack gets dumped by his current girlfriend then tries to hook up with his old flame only to realize she’s been kidnapped as retaliation for the arrest of a drug lord that he and his partner accomplished. From that point on it becomes a race to rescue his new love interest and make sure that the drug lord never goes free.
2. Rock Star
The life of a rock star is essentially meaningless if you can’t keep up with what people want and think is hot. Staying true to the music is important but if the music doesn’t adapt then there’s no more point to and the beat has to end. Those musicians that have managed to stick around are those that feel the beat as it moves, not as they would have it move.
1. Invincible
The track might not be in the trailer but it’s in the movie. The story of Vince Papale is one that not a lot of people outside of Philadelphia probably knew before this movie came out. Eagle pride has been something that the people in Philly have known about for a long time and don’t question. No matter how their team is doing in any given year Philly loves their Eagles.
Nugent has been popular for a while, and there are still a lot of people that listen to his music.
