The Top Uses of the Song “Imagine” in Movies or TV

The song is, as you might have guessed, a lot about unity and the recognition of the borders that keep us apart and essentially force us to live our lives by what others tell us. It’s an ideal statement that carries a lot of weight but often fails to take into account that while peace and unity are preferable in a more evolved society, the control that others exert is unfortunately stronger at times and can be just as powerful. The message that Lennon attempted to tell the world through this song was that unity through a socialistic ideal could create a much more powerful bond between people than the current model that has been used for so many decades and centuries. It’s a very nice ideal and something to aspire to, but unfortunately it is not one hundred percent realistic.

That being said, here are some of the best uses of this song.

5. The Voice

The sound of this song when it hits is something that a lot of people recognize and thus begin to build up an expectation towards as they listen to whomever happens to be singing it at the time. While this woman does in fact does a good job she definitely brings her own feel to the song and gives it a different kick than it originally had. In some ways it might actually seem a little more easy to relate to now.

4. Cold Case-Imagine

A lot of times this song is brought in to show the futility of some scenes and really highlight the disparity between people. And then it can be brought in as just a pleasing part of the soundtrack that offers a very mild sound and a type of song that feels like it belongs in the moment. Imagine has been used in a variety of ways throughout the years and continues to be used in this same manner.

3. Mr. Holland’s Opus

A lot of times Imagine is played as part of a soundtrack to denote change and how the world is moving by throughout the decades. In many ways it is calling for a change to what is known and practiced on a regular basis, though obviously not much is done to steer humanity along the path of enlightenment and a return to the idea that we are all one people and one nation.

2. Quantum Leap

The idealistic nature of this song doesn’t seem to mesh well with humanity in so many ways but it’s a nice attempt at bringing people together. The only issue with it that I can see is that it breaks apart from the regular pattern that humanity follows so doggedly and yet never really fleshes out just how we can get to that point while changing, not abandoning, our current frame of mind.

1. John Lennon

John Lennon had great ideals and ideas. He was a visionary in a time when such a thing wasn’t all that easy to be and wasn’t as valued as it should have been. His attempt to work against the grain of society is something that is still attempted today, but has not yet caught firm enough hold to change the world as he might have liked.

It’s still a pleasing song, but the ideal has yet to be reached.
