The Top Uses of Iggy Pop Songs in Movies

He’s been designated as the “Godfather of Punk” and has earned that kind of reputation many times over. Throughout the years he’s been putting his signature sound to use in many different ways be it film, TV, or video games. He’s even been in front of the camera a time or two to the delight of his many fans. Whatever kind of punk rock there is he’s probably heard of it or even tried it out. He’s been known for his on stage antics and was even a part of the band called The Stooges. They were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2010.

Here’s a few of his hits that you might recognize from various films.

5. Gold – Gold

It seems like it can cure all the ills and take care of all the problems in the world, but it seems to cause a lot more than it fixes. Gold is one of those things that everyone covets but the truly wise reason can be sold and used to pay for the actual necessities in life. Funny how that works when you forget the basics and go straight for the luxuries. All that for a pretty piece of shiny mineral.

4. Dark Shadows – I’m Sick of You

If a woman turned me into a creature of the night because I’d spurned her advances  I think I’d say I’m sick of her as well. That’s the case of Barnabas, who upon spurning a young woman that showed affection for him is turned into a vampire that is destined to be cursed and hated forevermore. They say love hurts but this seems to go above and beyond really.

3. Faster – I Wanna Be Your Dog

Though the film isn’t about the figure shown in the clip he’s definitely an interesting character. He pushes himself harder and harder in order to attain perfection in all things largely because he was born with such glaring imperfections. He can’t see past that however as he continues to do whatever he can to make himself the perfect killing machine. It takes the ultimate challenge to finally open his eyes, and almost dying helps.

2. Freddy Got Fingered – I Gotta Be Me

Only Tom Green could possibly pull of a movie this insipid and have anyone show up to the theater or the movie store. The fact that it’s been seen in stores now and again is still just disturbing since the movie was really that horrible. Did you ever watch his TV show? Magnify that by about ten and you’ll be close to just how terrible this movie really was.

1. Trainspotting 1 and 2 – Lust for Life

There’s nothing quite like going home. Nope, nothing like it. For one thing, going home seems to be the last thing that Mark should be doing since he’s just in time to save one friend from OD-ing, gets in a fight with another, and has to hide from another because the guy wants to kill him. But hey, it’s good to be home, right?

Iggy Pop has this weird style that people seem to love, but after listening to him for a little while it’s easy to see why.
