The Top Five Knife Fight Scenes in Movie History

The Top Five Knife Fight Scenes in Movie History

Knife fights in movies are notoriously bad an inaccurate but those that make it into the memories of audiences are usually those that involve some of the biggest stars and the most intricate movements. In a real knife fight there are rarely any real winners since the idea of walking away unscathed is hard to imagine. One would almost have to be a master in knife-fighting going up against a novice to insure such a thing. But in the movies the realism is usually dialed down to about 3 or 4, and the intensity is dialed up to 11. So long as it looks good people are willing to watch.

They’re also willing to believe it’s possible too though.

5. Commando

Of course Arnold’s going to have a big knife that could probably skewer a calf. You wouldn’t expect him to go into battle with a pen or a rolled up magazine would you? Matrix has to walk into any battle packed with enough ammunition for an army and a knife that could possibly match up with the likes of Crocodile Dundee. You don’t just want to stab your enemy after all, you want to gut them while pulling the blade out.

4. Kickass

There is something so disturbing and yet so awesome about a school-age girl whipping out a butterfly knife and looking excited about it. Hit Girl isn’t a normal girl however and she’s anything but a novice when it comes to sharp weaponry. The manner in which she flings her weapon, and her accuracy, are amazing for anyone, let alone a girl her age. Just think what she might do if she grew up continuing to fight and learn how to perfect her methods.

3. The Bourne Supremacy

The other guy had a knife, Bourne had a rolled up magazine. Still Bourne came out on top because he’s just that awesome. I mean come on, this is a guy that took on another assassin in the first movie with an ink pen when the guy had a gun and a knife. A guy that has a knife and nothing else shouldn’t even stand a chance against Bourne. But it’s still a pretty good fight to the end.

2. The Expendables 2

This is where the movie magic really comes in because by and large Statham’s character should have been dead a couple of times over during this fight. I get the fact that knives are great weapons and when wielded by an expert are easily one of the deadliest things around, but against firearms they’re not this useful. It’s an awesome fight scene though and one that a lot of people enjoy.

1. The Hunted

The Hunted had its fair share of admirers and critics since it featured a lot of great scenes such as this. Unfortunately when you take into account how they had to stage this entire setting you kind of get the feeling that the fight wouldn’t have gone this way. The footing and the simple creating of Hallam’s knife would have been far more uncertain and taken a lot longer than is shown. But yes, it is one of the most awesome knife fights in Hollywood.

The realism on some of them is great, but the behind the scenes views kind of kill it.
