The heroes don’t always show their faces so readily. Maybe this is because they don’t really want the notoriety or maybe there’s another reason that’s a little more personal. In any case the look is usually not meant to be menacing but it does give the hero, or antihero in some cases, a look that suggests that they are no one to be messed with. In many ways the raised hood is a sign that the person does not want to interact with anyone and is looking for a bit of anonymity, a way to just kind of blend into the crowd and go unnoticed. I happen to like the earlier description however, as it lends a bit of mystery and toughness to many heroes that don’t care to show their face on a regular basis.
When the hood is up the danger level seems to increase as well.
5. Deadpool
To be honest Deadpool only wears a hood for a short amount of time, before he even becomes Deadpool in fact. When he’s Wade Wilson he’s doing his best to hide his face mostly because no one ever seems able to stand the idea of what was done to him and what resulted from the experimentation that was performed on him. Eventually he goes to the mask, but the hood is the first go-to that he tries.
4. Batman
Now you can call it a mask, a cowl, or anything else, but in essence it’s a different kind of hood that hides his face away from the world so that the public won’t know that Bruce Wayne is the masked vigilante. Wouldn’t it be kind of obvious after a while though. An alternate identity seems to get in the way of a lot of things, but at least being a rich eccentric can be used to explain away his absences.
3. Aguilar
When calling an assassin a hero it really depends on who you talk to. In the movie, if you’re a fan of free will and a person that happens to not buy into the whole hypocrisy of the Templar Order then you could easily see Aguilar and the other assassins as the heroes, albeit those that work in the darkness with a much more positive reason for doing so. After all, not all of those who work for the light can afford to keep their hands unsullied.
2. Robin Hood
Robin Hood’s hood is more or less for weather purposes and possibly for keeping an air of menace about him, but to many he was a hero and still is to this day. The idea of robbing from the rich that would subjugate the poor is still a popular notion but to this point no one has bothered to think in such an altruistic yet decidedly outlandish fashion yet.
1. Obi-wan Kenobi
Of all the people that could rock the hood look it was Obi wan Kenobi. As a Jedi Master he doesn’t exude an aura of menace, but he definitely has the attitude that says ‘mess me with at your peril’. He was never a fully violent man, but he knew how to react when necessary.
When the hood is up it’s best to tread carefully.
