The Top Five Eric Stoltz Movie Roles of His Career

Eric Stoltz is the kind of actor that tends to fall off the map every now and again when it comes to Hollywood, but then comes right back when you least expect him. The guy is a great actor and yet he’s been so under-utilized throughout the years that you have to wonder how he’s stayed busy, until you look at his filmography. There’s not a lot to say that he’s been a mainstream kind of guy but he hasn’t been idle since his credits run for quite a while as an actor, a director, and a producer in both films and TV. Stoltz is about 56 at this time and he’s still working his butt off to make things happen which is impressive. His acting talents are very substantial and in truth I could have seen him pulling off a lot more roles in his youth than he did. Of course we have one very special movie that he played a part in that will always be remembered.

You’ll see it once you go down the list.

5. The Butterfly Effect

As good as he is at acting the role that he plays in this movie is absolutely gut-wrenching since he plays a pedophile that videotapes his own daughter. It’s horrible to think about but somehow you can at least step away from the movie and remember that Stoltz is just that good of an actor that he can give you that sick, queasy feeling in your stomach that’s accompanied by a deep, burning rage concerning pedophiles.

4. Pulp Fiction

He’s got to be one of the friendliest drug dealers in any movie ever made. The language is a bit much but then again it is a Tarantino film so it goes with the territory. But it’s a welcome relief from the previous entry since it proves that Stoltz can work from one extreme to another. He’s one of the most adaptable guys in Hollywood when it comes to shifting from one role to another.

3. 2 Days in the Valley

A frustrated idealist doesn’t seem like the kind of person that would make it as a cop. They seem to want to do too much and don’t fully understand the consequences of what they’re wanting until it’s too late. But give Stoltz credit on this one since he definitely makes the viewer feels that he is good and fed up with the petty crimes he’s being forced to deal with. Unfortunately when he really gets in the thick of it he has no idea how to handle himself.

2. The Prophecy

He doesn’t have a huge role in this movie but at the very least he has an important one. As Simon, one of the many angels that are divided and continue to war among one another, he is one of those that seeks out a dark soul that could possibly be used as a weapon against his brethren. Upon retrieving it he then bestows it upon a young girl so that it might eventually be destroyed.

1. Mask

This has to be one of his best performance of all time simply because he put so much effort into the character that people from Rocky Dennis’ old neighborhood had to be reminded that Rocky had in fact passed away. One older man saw Stoltz in his full makeup and thought that the original Rocky was still alive.

He’s made a lasting impression on a lot of people.
